Alabama Fall Series Round 10: Comer Motocross Park Nothing Turns Stiles A'Way From Winning By STEVE AND PEGGY COR LEE CORNER, At, OCT, 27 uch to the delight of his many home-state fans. National MX Pro Clark Stiles made the trek to Corner MX in Comer. Alabama. for round 10 of the Alabama Fall Series. Fresh from a strong showing in the Outdoor Nationals. Stiles showed everyone in attendance just why he earned National number 53. besting some of Alabama's top local Pro talent in a dazzling display of speed and skill. Corner Motocross Park's loamy sand surface was in excellent condition due to the hard work and dedication of promoter Scott Aaron. who spent several nights watering and prepping the course prior to Saturday's event. Comer MX is well known for its great layout and preparation and is a favorite racetrack of most who have raced there. The first 250cc A/B combined moto was the first race of the day, and when the gate dropped. Stiles was gone. Following in second was Jon Boy Monk. aboard a new Honda CRF450R. Mississippi's Lonnie Brown held third aboard his RM250. In fourth was Honda-mounted Joey Hargrove. who immediately engaged Brown in a fierce battle for third place that raged the entire moto. As Stiles continued to stretch his lead, Monk was becoming more comfortable with his new four-stroke each lap. and he also began to move away from the BrownHargrove battle. In addition. slow starter Josh Thompson moved up to the rear of the battling pair and joined the fray. M By the end of lap five, Stiles had nearly 12 seconds on Monk. and the battle for third raged on. Thompson soon took advantage of the intensity of the two riders in front of him and passed both of them in one corner, moving his YZ into the third-place spot. Hargrove finally got the best of Brown and secured fourth. Moto one ended with Stiles taking the win, ahead of Monk. Thompson, Hargrove and Brown. Moto two began with Stiles and Brown out front going into tum one. Brown emerged in first and stayed there for most of the first lap. Stiles then made an outside pass in a tight corner and moved into the lead at the beginning of lap two. Brown followed. ahead of Hargrove and Monk. On lap two, Monk passed Hargrove and moved up behind Brown. but Stiles had already checked out. On the next lap, Monk made the pass on Brown for second. Almost immediately. Brown began to suffer problems and he started to fall back further into the pack, while Thompson finally found his way around Hargrove. Moto two ended with Stiles taking the win and the overall, followed by Monk. Thompson. Hargrove and a disappointed Brown. Stiles did not limit his winning ways to just the 250cc class. He easily topped the 125cc A class. besting Monk, Thompson and Tim Castrone in the process. After a brief rest. Hargrove went back out and topped the Over 25 class. The 250cc B win went to track announcer John Davidson. Double-class winners were plentiful at this round. with several riders 52 NOVEMBER 28. 2001 • e y e I e n e vv SO Corner Motocross Park: Clark Stiles took a busman's holiday and topped both the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes at round 10 of the Alabama Fall series. sweeping more than one division. In the Mini ranks, Nick Jones once again topped both the Preteen and the 85cc (7-11) classes aboard his 10<. YZ-mounted Jonathan Dove did likewise, taking wins in both the 85cc (12-13) group and the Supermini classes. Following Dove home in both classes was Georgia's Tyler Jugel.
