Peninsula 100: Jason Greer flies high en route to taking the point position at the finish of the 26th running of the Peninsula 100 in Newport News, site of round 11 of the Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles series. tory Connection-sponsored Suzuki rider Travis Williford during the first half of the race. Yelling and hollering, Brown got Williford to let him by, and Brown went on to chase after Samuels, but by then Samuels was long gone. Brown came through the finish in second. A newcomer to the 250cc A class, Robin Allsop, came back from fourth place to take third. In the Four-Stroke A class, Cycle Connections/Bruce's Suspension/ Jimmy Cycle Sales-backed Yamaha rider Justin Stone didn't waste any time getting to the head of the pack. When Stone slid out on a dusty corner, Sunrise Auto & Cycles-sponsored Yamaha rider Mike Capewell blew by him to take the lead - temporarily. Capewell went flying by a corner and Stone repassed him to take back the lead and then set his sights on the overall, achieving his best finish ever with a class win and fourth overall. Capewell came through the scoring tent in second. ' Wayne Cycle Shop-backed Honda rider Robert Wagner put in a good effort to take third place. After cinching the 2001 Senior Aclass championship, Kawasaki rider Don Hall thought it would be fun to play with the young'uns in the Vet A class. Hall tailed behind Mcintire Construction-sponsored Yamaha rider Mike Mcintire and Lewis Motorcycle Sports-backed Yamaha rider Craig Randle, but Mcintire started making mistakes. By the end of the first lap, he'd handed his lead over to Randle and fallen behind Hall, in third. Mcintire caught up to Hall and blew by him on a fast, dusty fire road. By the end of the third lap, Mcintire had picked off Randle, and then he kept the lead to take the win. Hall was right on Mcintire's rear fender for second, and Randle came through the finish in third. Greer was tyst challenged for the lead off the start when Yamaha rider Eric Hytinen took the holeshot. Greer quickly passed Hytinen, but found his brother, Maxima/ESC-sponsored Kawasaki rider George Greer, right on his rear fender. George made a move around Jason to take the lead in the last half of the first lap, but he soon found himself disabled by several broken, bent spokes. Jason took the lead while his brother cheered him on from the pits. With the 250cc A championship locked up and a move to AA class next season imminent, Steve's Performance-backed Kawasaki rider Ashley Hall rode at an impressive pace to take second overall. Gas Gas rider David Ashley rode a consistent race to take third place. Motorcycles & More/Tucker Rocky /Woods Heating-sponsored KTM rider Chance Baker took the holeshot off of the 200cc A-class start. During the first lap, Baker fell to the back of the pack as Kawasaki rider Andrew Williams and Gas Gas rider Tommy Ashley got by him. Williams fell off the pace, and Tommy Ashley took control of the lead. Realizing he had a broken kickstarter, Ashley was careful not to stall or crash, riding a nearly perfect race to take first place. Baker picked up the pace to come in a minute behind Ashley and take second. After a brief fourth-lap duel with Baker, Gas Gas rider Michael Lancaster settled for third place. Kawasaki rider Stephen Samuels took the holeshot in the 250cc A class and kept the lead throughout the race, capturing his first win of the season. Russell rode a pair of smart motos en route to a 2-1 score on the day, while first-moto winner Gino Scolari suffered a midrace fall in moto two yet still garnered a respectable second overall on the day via a 1-2 score. The series, presented by Merced Powersports and Swift Auto World, continues to bring in strong numbers as the Azevedo crew continues its commitment to offering nothing but the best. R "We want to make sure each rider gets their money's worth," said Jack Azevedo. "From the minute they sign up in the morning until their last moto, we want to make sure it's an all-around positive experience on and off the track. Based on the numbers we've been pulling, I think we're accomplishing that." The first 125cc Novice moto got under way with Kawasaki jockey Raymond Navarro grabbing the holeshot ahead of Russell, Kris Triest and Scolari. However, it quickly turned into a two-man race, as both Russell and Scolari began distancing themselves from the pack. Russell's Suzuki held the lead until the whiteflag lap, when Scolari, who had been hounding him all moto long, finally made his move. Scolari held on for Hangtown National Track: Suzuki jockey zach Russell turned up the heat In the 125cc Novice class at the third round of the AMP/GFI Super Gold Cup Octoberfest series, taking the overall victory with a 2-1 score.
