CMC Northwest Summer Series Final Round: Albany Motorsports Park STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY liGHT ALBANY,OR,OCT.21 amaha-mounted Matt Wilson's finest hour of the season came at the final round of the 12-round CMC Northwest Summer Motocross Series at Albany Motorspots Park. Wilson put his YZaO out front in the aocc (14-16) and Supermini classes to lead a small list of double-class winners on this muddy day. Also posting double-class wins were KTM-mounted Rory Sullivan, winner of the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes; Pete Sannan, the 125cc and Before The Hill Junior victor; Danny Gubser, who won the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open classes; and Jim Harris, who was victorious in his Over 40 Intermediate and Over 50 classes at the series' finale. Wilson's biggest win this season came in the Supermini class. Wilson came from behind in the first moto to overtake Honda-mounted Ricky Wuori. Wilson then held off all of Wuori's challenges to post a victory ahead of Wuori, Aaron McClinton, Jesse Wuori and Ryan Mclaughlin. Wilson came back in moto two with a similar performance to polish off his I-I sweep. Jesse Wuori finished second, followed by Ricky Wuori. However, Ricky Wuori (2-3) finished second overall, ahead of Jesse (4-2), McClinton (3-4) and McLaughlin (5-5). Sullivan's first win came uncontested in the combined 125cc Pro/Before The Hill and Up The Hill classes. Sullivan got around early leader Ben Sannan to take command, although Sullivan's ride came to an abrupt halt when the rider from Estacada, Oregon, slid out on the slippery track and, rather than risk losing his clutch perch, pulled off the track. This allowed Pete Sannan to take the checkered flag first in the 17-rider field, while Sullivan scored a Pro-class win. Moto two was Sullivan's from the get-go. Fellow KTM rider Pete Sannan finished second to Sullivan to ,net an overall Before The Hill Junior-class win, ahead of Matt Crawford (3-2), Robert Wullbrandt (2-3), Tylor Gorst (4-5) and Jeremy Secondo (6-4). Yamaha YZ426F -mounted Jack Meadows landed the Before The Hill Intermediate-class win with a I-I score, ahead of Ryan Huege (2-2) and Justin Jensen (3-3). Yamaha rider (Lett) Ricky Wuori (28 1) leads Matt Wilson (516) in the first Supermini moto at Albany Motorsports Park, site of the final round of the CMC Northwest Summer Serles. Wilson won overall, and also later topped the 80cc (14-16) class. (Below! Kyle Hampton dominated the first 125cc Beginner moto in Albany, Oregon, but he coulcl only muster a fourth-place finish In moto two, good for third overall. Rick Walling walloped the adjoined Up The Hill class, topping the topplacing Junior riders, Dane Batty, Mike Farmer and Ryan Grimes. The trio stayed in close quarters throughout both motos before it was finalized in Batty's favor, some six seconds back of lone Intermediate Walling. Perhaps the best battles of the day came in the 250cc Pro class, as Sullivan and Yamaha-mounted Terry Lee Hamness went head to head in both motos. While Sullivan topped both muddy motos, the rookie Pro did have his work cut out for him in moto one. Hamness got the jump on the field, followed by Jon Kauffman and David Sibley. Sullivan came from well behind after a poor start, but he caught Hamness with three laps remaining. Hamness and Sullivan stayed in close quarters for the remainder, but in the heat of battle, the two riders tangled. Former AMA National number 93, Hamness, got the worst of the confrontation and finished a distant second to Sullivan after picking himself out of the mud and restarting his YZ. Sullivan got the best of Hamness in moto two for the overall win, while Sibley took topped the Intermediate portion. In the adjoined Junior class, Honda-mounted Zach Melton won both motos to lead Ryan Grimes and Jeremy Mclain. "' guess I should have seen it [the pass] coming, but it's all for fun. He [Sullivan] gave me a good race." Hamness came back later to make up for the disappointing 250cc Proclass loss by dominating the Over 30 Pro class, handily topping both motos. Second to Hamness was local rider Dave Fox (2-2). Sibley (3-3) and Gary Beyer (4-4) followed. Pete Sannan's season-long domination outdoors came to a close with the local rider earning I-I victories in the 125cc and Before The Hill classes. Sannan, who will likely make the move up to the next-highest classification with the upcoming Winter Arena-cross Series, topped Garret Melton in both 125cc motos to finish the series on a high note, capturing titles in each class. Shawn Huege trailed the duo, finishing 4-3 for third overall, ahead of Wullbrandt (3-4) and Yamaha-mounted Alex Hill (5-5). The Kawasaki-mounted Gubser has been a consistent top-three finisher for much of the series, although on many occasions he's faced top Nationally ranked 60cc riders such as Matt DeAtley and Landon Currier.
