GFI Racing Fall Series North/South Showdown: Perris Raceway &lllIIIIre, _ecker' in Aid the South Viet Jaracl Gilmore _nthe8Occ Novice class with a 1-2 punch at the GFI Racing Fall Serles North/South Showdown. STORY AND PHOTOS BY GREG ROBERTSON PERRIS, CA, OCT. 28 sing their familiarity with Perris Rsceway to their advantage, Jarad Gilmore and Patrick Bleckert captured wins in the 80cc and 125cc Beginner classes, respectively, and in doing so helped the GFI Racing South division, with 22 class champions, top the 16 class championships acquired by the visiting GFI Racing North riders during the annual running of the GFI Racing/Goat Eyewear/Fox/Pro Circuit/Shoei-sponsored North/South Showdown. Gilmore got things started off in his favor in the first 80cc Novice moto by snagging the early lead, ahead of Bryce Huffman, Jared Morrison and Brandyn Travis. Gilmore would end up running out front for the entire moto, with Huffman keeping him honest all the way. Northern rider Kramer Patterson and Dana Dreier both came up through traffic to finish third and fourth, respectively, ahead of Morrison. Dreier got a much better start in round two and let everyone know that his come-from-behind fourth-place performance in the first moto was no fluke, as he led every lap for the win and second overall behind the 1-2 score of Gilmore. Mike Hart (RIght) Patrick Bleckert (972) split moto wins with Shaun Hllllon for the 125cc Beglnnerclass victory at Penis Raceway. The first 125cc Beginner moto was all Shaun Hillion's, as he put his YZl25 out front right from the start and never looked back. Fellow Yamaha pilot Bleckert settled into second place, where he would finish, ahead of Brock Whitehead, Ricky Barber and Dave Lemke. Bleckert and Hillion went at it again in moto two, with Bleckert gaining the upper hand to go 2-1 over Hillion's 1-2 for the overall honors. Northern rider Josh Stockton turned a good start into a third-place finish and third overall on a 6-3 showing. Whitehead got buried in the pack but still managed fourth overall with 3-8 finishes, over the 5- 7 tally of Lemke. KTM rider Jeremy McCool was perfect in both 50cc Open motos as he defeated Cobra-mounted Colt Hubbs, who has been tearing up the class throughout the series in the South region. Nitro Johnson took third in both races, ahead of Blake Novelich and Andrew Silverstein. Hubbs and McCool both returned to go at it in the 50cc stock (7-8) class. Hubbs got around McCool on the opening lap of moto one to pull away for the win. It was all McCool in round two, as he controlled the pace out front to collect his second overall win of the day. Hubbs easily took second overall with 1-2 finishes, over Nick Serrano (3-3). Johnson (5-4) and the North's Aaron Williams (6-5). Bryce Terzian led the first half of the opening Supermini race before being overtaken by Ike Jost and Northern rider Kyle Kent. Jost and Kent continued on to finish one-two, ahead of Nick Valdez, Justin Mulford and Robert Memoli. Memoli was on fire in the second moto, making his way into the lead by lap two and motoring away to go 5-1 for third overall behind Jost (1-2) and Kent (2-3). Jost absconded with the holeshot in the first 80cc Intermediate race and led for a lap before Valdez shot past and pulled away for the victory. Third went to Trent Pugmire, followed by Kent and Donnie Kearney. The Northern region's Charlie Morrison was untouchable in the first Schoolboy moto, but he encountered problems early in round two that relegated him to an eighth-place finish for fifth overall. Suzuki-mounted Carlos Gonzales went 3-1 to edge out the 2-2 tally of Daniel Sani for the overall. Sean O'Conner got off to one of his usual fast starts to lead the one-shot, 20-minute 125cc Pro moto. Suzuki's Shane Bess dropped O'Connor back to second place on lap two and then proceeded to walk away with the victory by a safe margin over Turbo Reif, Matt McCrummen and O'Connor. Reif appears to be adapting to his new Suzuki ride just fine as he went wire to wire for an impressive win in the one-shot, 20-minute 250cc Pro race. O'Conner, Mike Metzger and Zeb Armstrong all took turns in the runner-up position, with Metzger being there when it counted most, on the last lap.
