after taking over the lead. Both Lozada and Enos tried to take advantage of the situation, and it turned into a four-rider scramble for the lead as Enochs had made his way up to join in. As they came around, Lozada had the lead, with Enochs, Wiegand and Enos hot on his tail. But Enochs soon made his way by and began stretching his lead, while Wiegand chased down Lozada for second. On the white-flag lap, Wiegand took over second and Lozada appeared to have a comfortable lock on third - until he went down just two turns from the finish. Lozada got back under way just as Enos came up on his rear fender. With Enochs taking another strong win, Wiegand followed in all by himself to take second overall on the day. Lozada just edged out Enos at the checkers for third. However, Enos' 2-4 score gave him third overall on the day, while Lozada finished with a 5-3 tally, which was good enough for fourth on the day. Batey rounded out the top five and took fifth on the day via a 4-5 score. In 80cc Intermediate action, Enochs continued his winning ways, snagging back-to-back holeshots and strong moto wins. Wiegand also checked in with a pair of strong finishes, going 2-2 on the day, while Layton (3-3), Enos (4-4) and Tyler Freeman (5-5) rounded out the top five. Batey topped the 80cc Novice class with a pair of wins over Ruben Hernandez. While Batey ran away with the first-moto win, things weren't so easy in moto two. Batey started near last and later got caught up in a six-rider battle for the lead with Ford, Michael Hales, Kyle Smith, Hernandez and Bryan Jannisse. Batey eventually made his way by for the win, and Hernandez got the best of the battie, finishing third in the moto and second overall on the day with a 3-3 effort. Smith followed up with a fourth, which was good enough for third on the day via a 8-4 tally, while Jannisse went 6-6 for fourth. Marcus Bradshaw rounded out the top five with a 4-8 score. The always-exciting 80cc Beginner class featured an 18-rider field. Cary Kotowski took the overall win with a 1-1 showing over Scott McKinnon, who followed up with a 3-3 score for second on the day. Colton Walker tied McKinnon's six score with a 2-4 effort, which was good enough for third on the day, while Stephen Chewning rode a 4-6 score for fourth on the day. Deric Lane had a tough day, as he appeared to be headed for a much better finish than what was posted. Lane led moto one, but due to parents being out on the track, the moto was red-flagged on lap two. On lap four of the restart, Lane pulled off with apparent bike troubles while holding down the third spot, eventual- Iy re-entering but finishing well back in 13th. However, Lane rebounded in moto two with a strong second-place finish, rounding out the top five on the day. eN Camegie Cycle Park Uvennore, CallfDmia Results: Dctaber 14, 2001 lRauad 21 Pee Wee Track 50 (4-6) P/W JR: I. OMRA Cross Country Series Round 11: Monkey Butt Hare Scrambles Sigfrid Spanks the Monkey Butt By stabilizer-sponsored KTM 250, put the heat on Sigfrid by swapping the lead on the course and in the pits. "For me, being a desert racer, it's a lot of fun to come up here and ride in the trees and real dirt - it was an awesome course," said Hamel, who was here setting up and promoting the next round of the WORCS series at this venue. The large turnout in the AA class featured quite a few out-of-towners, most likely here for a preview of the next WORCS round. The Northwest has become very active lately for big off-road races, especially with the prospect of having five or six National-caliber races next year. Rounding out the top five in the Pro ranks for the day were local hot shots Mason Harrison and Tyler Whitcomb. Fifteen AA riders took off in the first wave, followed by a large Expert and Amateur roster. Season-ending points battles had many riders gunning for the extra push of a class win. There is only one more round in the OMRA Cross Country Series. The Northwest Off-road Racers Association's 10th annual Monkey Butt almost didn't happen this year, due to fire danger and legal problems, but club chairman Marty ADAM ACHEPOHL ROSEBQRG,OR,OCT.21 fter three hours of hard-core cross county racing, Jason Sigfrid took the checkers at the 10th annual Monkey Butt Hare Scrambles. After challenging leaders Jason Dahners and Dave Hamel throughout the last half of the race, the Florence Yamaha/Yeti Cycles/Smith/Azonic/O'Neal-backed YZ250 rider made the final pass during the penultimate lap and stayed in front to the end. "I hit a tree and slid out," said Sigfrid. "That's when Dahners got by me. But half a lap later I found him on the side of the trail, tangled with a lapper. It was one of the best cross country courses I've ever done." Dahners, riding a Factory KTM/ Motorcycle Works of Renton/ Screwy Hel mets/Answer/ Aftershocks- backed KTM250, pushed hard after his getoff but ran out of time to catch Sigfrid. "My filter was so plugged with dust, I had to bump-start the bike," said the multi-time NMA champion. "I lost a little too much time. The club did a great job, though. It was a lot of fun." Earlier in the race, Dave Hamel, riding a DH Racing ProductsjFastway/GP A Clarks Branch MX: In the woods and on the gas, Jason Sigfrid took the checkers after dicing with Jason Dabners and Dave Hamel at the 10th annual Monkey Butt Hare Scrambles - the 11th round of the OMRA Cross Country Series - in Roseburg, Oregon. c U a • e n e _ ...
