2001 White Brothers World Vet Championships Yamaha's Doug Dubach was once again dominant at the White Brothers World Vet Championships. He won both motos for his eighth Championship In as many tries. moto, however, a couple of living legends were looking to show that they could still twist with the best of them in the Over 40 Expert main event. The only man ever to win every major Championship (125cc, 250cc and 500cc National and 250cc Supercross), Jeff Ward put his Indy car away for the weekend and busted out a brand-new KX250, and former World Champion Danny LaPorte was looking for glory as well aboard his new FMF-modified CRF450R. Ward was near the front off the start, but the race got called back due to a huge front-tum pileup involving Ron Lawson, Randy Baumann, Shawn Hybarger, Mark Moscrop and three or four other riders. On the restart, though, Ward was again near the front, and by the first lap around he had found his way into the lead, and he never looked back. Innovation Sports' Tom Carson rode extremely well in second, ahead of LaPorte, who in turn had distanced himself from fourth place by the finish. Much in the same vein as John Dowd, Dubach goes out to whichever Nationals he feels like racing and smokes a lot of the young bucks. For example, he finished 10th at the Washougal round of the 125cc National Championship just this year. It's easy to say that, after winning the World Vet Championship seven out of the last eight years, Dubach was the favorite to win it again coming into the main event on Sunday - especially since a broken shoulder prevented him from even racing the year that he didn't win.
