on top in both the 65cc and 85cc Junior Mini classes this week. Ditcher suffered from some mistakes that dropped him out of contention in the Junior Mini class. In Vet action, Darin "Z-man" Zaremba suffered a shattered toe during practice, but he still managed to squeak away with the Over 25-dass victory with 2-2 moto scores, besting the 5-1 tally of "Rocket" Robin McClain. Another Darren, Darren Undh, won the Over 30 action over his rival Chris Opligers' YZ426F, with McClain thumping his way in for third. Former Pro rider Jay Coventry took the measure of the Over 40 class, over the aluminum-framed CR500-mounted Dave Blaumann, with Bob Harrington garnering the final podium spot. holeshot in moto two, but Taki passed him on lap two and held Donaldson back for the remaining four laps for the win. Donaldson again slotted in second. KTM rider Dennis Middleton came out early stayed on top of the action in Master Over 50 class until Dennis McAdam pulled off a pass on the very last lap for the win. Middleton took the overall win, as McAdam did not start moto two. Chris Cumbo set a fast pace for the other Over 40 Experts. but on the fourth lap Michael Neal overpowered him with his high-soaring jumps. Neal then powered away with awe· somely fast speed for the victory. Cumbo was a solid second. Another hot moLo folJowed, with Tim Williams blazing out with the lead and keeping it for two laps. Once again, Neal blasted past and continued onward until he had wrapped up another first. Williams finished second. In the Expert Over 50 contest, George Spearing and his finely tuned four-stroke Yamaha powered out in top speed and held all the other riders at bay - untii Jim McConneli ripped past on lap three. McConneli kept up the high energy all the way lo the checkered flag and picked up the number-one prize. Spearing crossed over with second. In the second moto, McConnell continued his successful winning formula of doing the right thing at the right time, and the big take was his once again. Spearing wrapped up another second. Over 40 Amateur rider Larry Fisher is no stranger to winning, and this race was no exception. His smooth but fast racing style help him chalk up first. Starting midpack, Gourley Collins weaved his way through the pack and into a well-deserved second. John Timmerman crossed over with third. Fisher couldn't match Collins' speed in the second moto. Although he doggedly pursued Collins, he just couldn't pass. Collins collected first, and Timmerman was third. Bill Malone was certainly up to speed as he whirled past 11 other Over 50 riders in mota one. He kept the momentum going and beat them all to the finish. After starting dead last, Terry Messer moved through the pack to claim second. Chuck Woody fired in with third. After crashing out of the first moto, Joe Red had a much better moto the second time around. This time, Red was up and ripping around in the best of style, and he greeted them all at the finish. Messer again started poorly but slotted in at second, and Malone was third. The start was delayed 45 minutes, but the finish occurred immediately. as MidTown Kawasaki/Pro Circuit/Helium Designs/Factory Connection's Lawson led to the first turn, never to be headed. This result was anything but clear after the first lap, when Lawson, DeCosta, Chris Pamella and Us came around like elephants holding each other's tails in a circus parade. After two laps, the situation was little different, with Us and Panzella swapping positions. Brooks Harrington took to the pits with an arm injury, and Nate Kanney followed suit with a twisted foot - soon to be joined on the scratch-and-dent pile by Edmonds and his separated shoulder. By this time, the lead four were the only fOUT with a chance as the field fell away. Lawson's lead outlasted his arm pump on lap three, and as his grip on the bars loosened, DeCosta's grip on the leader did the same. Forty-five seconds separated the two after three rounds, and at the checkered flag, after 2 1/2 hours of racing. Lis filled out the podium, foliowed by Pamella and Neil Dennett. Results AA: J. Bowman Wraps Up Two By JOHN KREPS SALEM, OH, OCT. 7 Bo Bowman, another of Ohio's fine up-andcoming young Pros, wasted no time getting to the front and dominating all four of his motos at round four of the AMA District 12 Fall Series at Western Reserve. Bowman set a blistering pace on his Honda CR250 all day and easily set the fastest lap times on the twisty circuit en route to sweeping the 250cc A and 16-24 Collegeboy dasses. Kawasaki rider David Kilgore also had a great day, topping the 250cc B dass and the highly competitve 125cc B dass as well. Kilgore simply rode away from the 250cc B dass, but he had to work a bit for the 125ccclass victory. Series regulars Warren Laney and Zach Kaiser weren't giving Kilgore an inch, but he still managed to work his way around them for a hard-fought victory. Yamaha four-strokes managed to sweep both of the C classes, with Darrin Beardmore and Brent Dunlap winning the 125cc C and 250cc C classes, respectively. Duniap is undefeated so far in the 250cc C Fall Series races. Michael Blaumann and Kyle Ditcher continued their year-long rivalry in the smaller Mini classes. Rossetti Top the Mountain By STEVE AND PEGGY COR1£E TALLASSEE,AL,OCT.7 This month's race at Alabama's premier outdoor motocross facility, Monster Mountain, was highlighted by cool, dry weather and absolutely perfect track conditions, making for some of the best racing action ever seen on the Mountain. Bar-to-bar racing was witnessed not only in the Pro divisions but also in several other classes. The Blackwell family went all out again to put on a top-notch show. In addjtion to the regular program, a wheelie contest was held at intermission, and the new, stateof-the-art restrooms. showers and concessions facilities were well-received by all. The Pro action was exciting from the start. Top Aiabama Pro Joey Hargrove faced a challenge from another fast homegrown rider, Darryi Heisler, who returned to the A ranks this week and showed that he still has what it takes to win. When the gate dropped in moto one, Hargrove got the lead, with Heisler in hot pursuit. The two battled throughout the entire moto, swapping the lead back and forth several times. Heisler took the moto win over Hargrove and YZF-mounted James Morrison. After such a strong showing in the first race, the crowd anticipated another epic battle in moto two, but unfortunately it was not to Western Reserve Motorcycle Club: Andrews Honda rider Bo Bowman dominated the 250cc A and 16-24 Collegeboy classes at round four of the AMA District 12 Fall Series in Salem, Ohio. cue. e n e _ s NOVEMBER 21, 2001 67
