Blocker Enterprises Yamaha Kawasaki Day Hurricane Hills Sports Center STORV AND PHOTOS BV JIM P. SANDERSON CUFFORD, PA, OCT. 14 oung Honda pilot Phil Nicoletti of Cochecton, New York, was, to say the least, nimble. Nicoletti was on fire and flying, putting almost three seconds per lap on his nearest competitor. Nicoletti easily won both the 80cc (10-11) and 80cc (9-13) classes, carding perfect 1-1 scores in both. Nicoletti was extremely fast but also extremely smooth as he navigated the fast and technical Hurricane Hills course. Blocker Enterprises Yamaha Kawasaki sponsored the day and provided 5-foot trophies for the top riders. The event promoter, Hurd Motor Sports and their staff, once again provided an expertly prepared racecourse and gave riders some extra seat time by combining classes and running seven-lap motos. Mother Nature helped .out, too, by providing some sun and some good winds and keeping the rain away until after the day's activities were concluded. Sean Wallace led the pack out of the first tum in the first moto of the combined 80cc (7-9), (10-11) and (12-13) contest. Trailing were Nicoletti, Michael Mazur, Marshall Hurd, Abbie Jo Bardo, Steve Grossweiler and Dan Zabrowski. Nicoletti wasted no time and quickly got around Wallace to take the lead and just as quickly pull away. Nicoletti had an eight-second lead by the start of lap three. Rounding out the top five at the start of lap three were Wallace, Mazur, Hurd and Zabrowski. Nicoletti's lead was a whopping 15 seconds by the start of lap five. Wallace was still second. Hurd and Zabrowski had moved up to third and fourth, dropping Mazur to fifth. The top five were quite spread out by now and remained the same to the checkered flag. Nicoletti nailed the holeshot of the second moto and never looked back. In tow were Wallace, Mazur, Zabrowski and Hurd. Nicoletti quickly pulled away and had a nine-second lead by the start of lap three. The top five remained unchanged until lap four, when Hurd passed Zabrowski for fourth. Zabrowski dropped to fifth. The top five quickly spread out and didn't change all the way to the checkered flag once again. Nicoletti finished the moto with more than a 20-second advantage. Nicoletti got the overall via his 1- 1 rides. Wallace's consistent 2-2 tally got him second overall, and Hurd rounded out the podium, carding a 3-4 score for the day. By the fifth turn into the moto, the top-five running order was Millon, Hull, Hicks, Rowland and Brian Sworen. The top five remained the same into lap five. Then Sworen passed Rowland for fourth. The top five were very spread out by the last lap, with not much passing going on. Millon held on for the win, followed by Hull, Hicks, Rowland and Sworen. Yurkanin redeemed himself after going down in the first turn in the first moto by nailing the holeshot in the second moto, trailed by Millon, Hicks, Burke and Sworen.
