California Racing Club Sponsorship Series Round 3: Los Angeles County Raceway STORV AND PHOTOS BV GREG ROBERTSON PALMDALE,CA,OCT.28 icky Parks and Mike Alessi continued their winning ways at Los Angeles County Raceway during round three of the 13th annual California Racing Club/Galpin Ford/ N -Style/O' Neal/Maxima -backed Sponsorship Series. Parks has proved himself to be the one to beat in both the 125cc and 250cc Novice classes, while Alessi won all six motos entered to continue his stranglehold on the 85cc (12-13), Supermini and Schoolboy classes. In the first 125cc Novice moto, a four-way battle over the lead quickly developed between Brett Klein, Ryan Riess, Parks and Cory Redenius. Riess had made his way to the front for good by lap three, with Parks eating his share of sand while running a close second. Riess took the win, with Parks on his back fender. Third went to Redenius. with Ryan Reina putting a last-lap pass on Klein for fourth. Redenius snared the holeshot in the second moto and ran out front until Parks dropped him back to second place at the midway point. Parks and his Nationwide Cycle/Boyesen/ HRP/Maxima-backed YZ125 were untouchable once out front, as he went 2-1 for the overall. Redenius easily took second and second overall. Riess sliced his way toward the front after completing the opening lap back in 14th place to go 2-5 for third overall. topping the 4-4 score of Reina and the 8-3 tally of Kyle Jones. Yamaha four-stroke-mounted Blake Runestad came out smoking in the opening 250cc Novice moto and led every lap for the win. Although Runestad won the moto, Parks may have been the fastest rider on the track, as he came from last place on lap one to get around both Redenius and Jonathan Belding on the last lap to finish third. behind Reina. Things went better for Parks in moto two. as he got around a faststarting Randy Knox by lap two and disappeared to claim the overall on a 3-1 performance. Reina's 2-2 tally got the better of Runestad's 1-4 score for second overall. It was the Alessi brothers show in the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini classes. Mike Alessi absolutely ran away with all four motos aboard his Honda Racing Corporation-backed CR80. Brother Jeff was runner-up in all four outings. Tye Hames kept Jeff honest throughout the first 85cc moto. but he wasn't quite as successful in moto two, going 3-3 on the day. California. Things were a bit tougher for Howe in round two. as CRl25-mounted Eide got the holeshot and wasn't about to _.l-~~ -~----::--:,:,::~~~r ....... give up his lead to anyone. Howe dogged Eide throughout the race, finally powering around Eide with just a handful of turns remaining in the moto. Cali's consistent 4-4 score edged out Hertel's 3-5 tally for fourth, with Bryon Watson coming on strong in moto two to go 10-3 for fifth overall. In 250cc Intermediate first-moto action. Eide. Eide overshot a berm while leading, handing the first-moto win to the Honda CRF450R-mounted Smith. Eide finished second, with Howe slipping past both Watson and Durrer with time running out to claim third. In moto two, Smith got another good start aboard his new Honda, only to get out of shape coming out of a corner on lap one, allowing Howe to jet past. Howe ran off with the win. Smith's 2-1 tally was good enough for the overall. Watson went 4-3 for third, topping Durrer's 6-4 score. A first-lap crash held Eide to a fifth overall on the day via 2-9 finishes. YZ 125-mounted Chris Tocco worked his way up through a field of bigger bikes for the Combined Pro class' first-moto win over Raymond Smith, Nick Mairose and Frankie Mecono. Tocco was well on his way to doing it again in round two when a fall on the penultimate lap dropped him back to third and second overall. Smith and his G-Sport/VP Fuels/Factory Effex-sponsored CR250 collected the biggest chunk of the 200-percent payback on a 2-1 score. CN La Aageles Ceunty 1llIcew8Y ...llIId....
