2001 White Brothers World Vet Championships
Yamaha's Doug Dubach was once
again dominant at the White Brothers
World Vet Championships. He won
both motos for his eighth
Championship In as many tries.
moto, however, a couple of living legends were looking to show that they
could still twist with the best of them
in the Over 40 Expert main event.
The only man ever to win every
major Championship (125cc, 250cc
and 500cc National and 250cc
Supercross), Jeff Ward put his Indy
car away for the weekend and busted out a brand-new KX250, and
former World Champion Danny
LaPorte was looking for glory as well
aboard his new FMF-modified
CRF450R. Ward was near the front off
the start, but the race got called back
due to a huge front-tum pileup involving Ron Lawson, Randy Baumann,
Shawn Hybarger, Mark Moscrop and
three or four other riders.
On the restart, though, Ward was
again near the front, and by the first
lap around he had found his way
into the lead, and he never looked
back. Innovation Sports' Tom Carson rode extremely well in second,
ahead of LaPorte, who in turn had
distanced himself from fourth place
by the finish. Carson kept Ward
honest, and LaPorte did the same

oug Dubach doesn't ride like he's
38 years old. Much in the same
vein as John Dowd, Dubach goes out
to whichever Nationals he feels like
racing and smokes a lot of the young
bucks. For example, he finished 10th
at the Washougal round of the 125cc
National Championship just this year.
It's easy to say that, after winning the
World Vet Championship seven out of
the last eight years, Dubach was the
favorite to win it again coming into
the main event on Sunday - especially since a broken shoulder prevented
him from even racing the year that he
didn't win.
