He had to come from behind, as Jason Northrup, riding his National number-two Kawasaki triple. posted a fine 4.038-second run in the first round to take the class lead - and the Fast Time - into intermission. Daniels was the only rider to break into the threes all night. Andy Fortner claimed third in the class on his triple with a 4.3B4-second time. Northrup had a pretty good night overall, as he added another second and two firsts to his 750cc-c1ass second. The 25-year-old veteran was making his first appearance in district riding, having come home from Arizona to ride the Nationals. He also set the firstround time to beat in the 600cc class, as he flew a CR500 borrowed from Gayle Jenkins over the top in 4.318 seconds to take the lead into intermission. In the second round, however, Randy "Rocketman" Trosper flew his Honda over the top in a blazing 4.236 seconds to take the class lead. Northrup responded with another fast ride, but his 4.311 seconds would leave him in second place. Fortner claimed third in this class also with a run of 4.377 seconds on his Honda. Northrup's wins came on his Husaberg 501, as he was the best in both the Open Stock and 600cc Four-Stroke classes. His 4.709-second time was a winner in the Open Stock class, with Jammie Brown his closest challenger on a CR500 with a 4.959-second time. He was even faster on the stock-length Husaberg in the 600cc Four-Stroke class, nailing a 4.511-second time - well ahead of Steve Shafer, who claimed second with a 4.989-second run on his KTM 550. Scott "Scooter" Sheets Jr. was also a double winner, doing it on his hot Harley. His first win came in the Open class, in wh.ich he carded a 4.332-second first-round ride and didn't ride again, as no one in the class could match him. David Price came all the way from Maryland to run his beautiful Triumph and took second place with a 4.441-second run. Scooter's second win came in the Open Pushrod class. Again, he had to ride only once. His 4.436-second first-round ride held up for the win, with Price again taking second on his Triumph. Results 50 AUTO: I. Donnie Robbins (Cob): 2.
