pace. Wey was third, with McDonald fourth and Dick Watson fifth. Wey followed Penrod for several corners, and was now some 10 seconds behind Walker. As the rain continued, the theme for this moto was to stay upright and stay smooth. Walker was going fast, but Wey used his home-track advantage to make up some time and by lap five he was showing Walker a wheel in nearly every corner. Riders were doing soil sampling left and right, but at halfway Penrod, McDonald and Woods were following the leaders. With the two Japs to go, Wey took over the lead after Walker got a close-up of the Michigan landscape. Woods had moved into third after displacing McDonald in the whoops and Penrod in the tricky rhythm section up front. With the moto win, Wey took the overall as well, topping all comers in the 250cc Pro class. Walker settled for second. Woods came back to finish a remarkable third, while McDonald nailed down fourth after the throttle grip on Penrod's KTM came off. The event marked the fourth year in a row that the promoters of Michigan's District 14 set aside this one special weekend in September for the betterment of the sport. All the race proceeds from this event, as well as the $860 raised from the riders' clothing auction (which saw Ricky Carmichael's jersey haul in $255), made the total donated to the Clayton Memorial Foundation more than $10,000. More than 400 riders turned out for round nine of the 15-round series. Chad Albritton made his series debut a smashing success, leading both 250cc A motos from start to finish. Albritton returned in 125cc A racing and finished second in moto one. His second-moto efforts ended early, however, when his borrowed mount suffered a seizure. Moto Planet's Brian Raymond topped the 125cc A and Over 25 contests, while Capitol Cycle-backed lack Lundy demolished both the Youth and 125cc B divisions. Lundy and Perry were often side by side, and Perry led briefly during the second lap. Lundy crossed the finjsh line first, just half a bike length ahead of Perry. The Lundy/Perry debate failed to materialize in moto two because Perry ran into problems and was unable to finish the moto. Meanwhile, Lundy rolled on to a perfect score. D.C. Thomason moved his KTM up through traffic in both motos, eventually finishing 3-2 to net the runner-up honors. Perry returned to win the ] 6-24 Unlimited division, ahead of Matt Howard. In the series standings, Perry now leads Howard by a slim fourpoint margin in this class. After sharing moto wins with series leader Mackey, Priegel was on top with a 1-2 tally over Mackey's 5-1 score. Odom stumbled in both motos and had to settle for sixth overall. Odom came back strong in the 250cc C contest and posted the winning 3-1 score. William Cain absconded with the holeshot in both motos and eventually claimed runner-up honors via his 2-3 finjshes. Mackey overcame a last-place start in the final moto to earn fourth overall with a ] -5 tally. The 50cc Shaft-Drive class featured the top three series contenders in a close contest for the day's win. Tyler Piper's eventual 2-1 score took the gold over Kyle Clark and Eduardo Cordoba. Piper leads the series by 14 points over Cordoba and Clark. Polini-powered Will Castleberry displayed his National number-five plate at the front of the 50cc (4-6) pack in both motos and held on for a perfect score. Cody Ashley edged series leader Cordoba in a points tie for the runner-up honors. The 50cc (7-8) division was up for grabs when top contender Grant Ransdell's KTM dropped its chain on the first lap of moto one. Hunter Link took over to win the moto, but fellow Cobra pilot Kart Johnson went by Link in the final moto to earn the class win. Ransdell's 8-1 posting was good for third overall.
