I At the second Path Valley AHRMA Northeast Regional Dirt Track of the season, Jim Haas fought his way to the front of the '70s Singles contest for a close, hard-eamed win on his J&L Racing/Yamaha of Camp Hill-sponsored Yamaha. While Haas topped the largest class, the Weiss brothers left with a win each - Larry in the Over 50 class, with all riders on 750cc machines. and Ken in the 250cc Sportsman class. Rick Reynolds led the '70s Singles off the second tum, with Haas, Bill Reynolds, Larry Weiss and John Bower Jr. bunched up behind. As they ended the second lap, Haas slipped under Reynolds for the lead. Reynolds' brother Bill slipped by him on the third lap for second, while Nick Taylor moved up to join in the Rick Reynolds/Bower/Richard Pfanders battle for third. With Bill about three lengths behind Haas until the end, Rick held off the others for third. After finishing behind Mike Keane in their heat race, Larry Weiss put his 750cc Triumph into first off the line in the Over 50 final, with Keane, Jim Challingsworth and Melvin Brown right behind and pulled away. Brown took third on the fourth lap. Robert Geiser had his Honda in front at the start of the Sportsman 250cc contest, with Ken Weiss and Robert Miller behind. After the opening lap, Weiss moved up to challenge Geiser. finally taking the lead at the end of the third lap. Barney Waldron took a pair of wins on his 750cc Yamaha. easily topping Geiser's 250cc Honda, in the combined Over 40/0ver 60 event. Brown was second overall and an easy Over 60 winner. Waldron retumed later and, being the only 750cc rider, easily topped Bill Reynolds and Ken Weiss in the 600cc Sportsman contest. Richwood County Fairgrounds Zaiser Zaps 'em at Fair Race By RUPERT X. PELLETT RICHWOOD. OH, AUG. 30 Dominating the Novice classes all season long, Columbus, Ohio's Chad Zaiser has been a force to be reckoned with, as his method of operation has been to simply grab fast starts. and haul the mail to the checkered flag. The Honda speedster has been destroying the C classes in AMA District II and in this Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series. Zaiser came to Richwood - site of round 20 - confident, and he left with a few trophies after whisking his CRI25 in for the 125 C-c1ass crown and then besting Marysville's quick Rob Cunningham to take the 250cc C-c1ass win as well. Westerville's Shaun Kuchler had another great night of racing. He spanked the competition in the 125cc A class aboard his Honda, and then retumed to sink the hopes of the 16-24 class, in which he eamed the top honors. Mount Gilead's rising young fast guy, Jared Grabiel, showed the crowd that riding and training with National Amateur Champion Gavin Gracyk has proved successful. Grabiel stole off with both the Schoolboy- anC! 125 Bclass wins, displaying great skills for a 15year-old racer. Riding a Kawasaki and sponsored by GT Thunder, Grabiel had to contend with the very talented Dillion Watkins in the Schoolboy class and a determined Brian Beckholt In 125cc B competition. Fourth place in the 125cc B class went to Westerville's Tracey "Trey-Dog" Haun, who had difficulties in that class but resolved them in the 250cc B division to take the win. Fighting off the likes of Grove City's Randy Van Wagner and Kawasaki jockey "Mighty" Mitch Warrens, Haun sliced his green machine in for the win and a kiss from the trophy girl, Ms. Emmylou Witzuikshak of Richwood. Local racer "Buffalo" Bill Reiss came into this race with a winning attitude and left with the champagne, as his total destruction of the competition was evident in the Over 40 class. Mark "The Machine" McDaniel turned it on for the second spot, and Dale "Ringmaster" Ringwald took the third ring in the circus. In yet another electrifying performance, Dwight Voltz amped up the crowd with a dazzling display in the Open class. Riding his Torco Fuels-sponsored Kawasaki KX310, Voltz shocked the class by arcing his green machine in for the win, leaving second place to Grove City's Jim "The Farmer" Witteman and his CR500. Sarona Oaks Raceway: Tommy "Tom Cat" Clowers was the top cat at Rail America's Four-Stroke XR50 Challenge in Ramona, California, taking the overall Pro purse as well as the Dash For Cash, McCracken Whips to Flat Track Wins By PAUL GANDY MOBERLY, MO, SEPT. I Matt McCracken of Columbia, Missouri, took over the points lead in the flat-track Expert class with a landslide victory over his closest competitor at HLR Motorsports Park on Saturday evening. By the end of the first lap, he had put together an incredible lead, and he kept pouring it on throughout the entire race. McCracken finished the race about half a lap ahead of the rest of the riders. He started his victory celebration as he crossed the finish line, riding a big wheelie across the finish line. The real battle in this race was for second place, as John Brokken and Robert Bledsoe fought it out throughout the contest. Bledsoe, who had previously won the heat race, fell to the ba.ck of the pack at the beginning but did some fine riding to get back into contention for second, but a good run on the final lap preserved the second-place finish for Brokken. Stan Potter finished out the competition in fourth but was within striking distance of Brokken and Bledsoe going into the last lap. • cue fUlT TRACK EX: 1. Matt McCtlIclten (Yam): 2.
