Perris Raceway Wallace Wins at Perris By KENNY MORRIS PERRIS, CA, AUG. 25 Cale Wallace took home the overall win in the highly competitive eocc Supermini class with a 2-1 finish at the Temecula Motorsports Hot Summer Night Series at Perris Raceway. Some of the most competitive races of the series have been the 80cc classes, and round seven would prove to be no different. Perris Raceway made a few changes to its already awesome track. The additions included a new tabletop and a double that can be tumed into a triple by the more confident rider. The Mini pilots blasted off to the first tum, and Honda of Houston/Alpinestars/Shoei/Troy Lee Designs-backed Joshua Grant reeled off the holeshot, followed by Montclair Yamaha's Wallace and West Coast Motorsports' Jared Brown. Grant quickly began to pull a lead, because Wallace was busy fending off Brown. Wallace was able to buckle down and pull away from Brown, but by then Grant had about a five-second lead over the field. Wallace continued to look ahead, attempting to reel in Grant. Both riders were riding incredibly fast, but Wallace was a little faster. As the laps wore down, Wallace was within striking distance. Catching Grant was one thing, but passing him was another. Wallace would show Grant a wheel in nearly every corner on the last lap, but he couldn't make a pass. When the checkered flag waved, it was Grant taking the win, just edging out Wallace, with Brown in third. In the second moto, Wallace grabbed the holeshot, followed by Justin Mulford and Bart Manwill. By the third corner, Grant had passed Manwill and Mulford and moved into second. Manwill jumped at an opportunity for a pass when Mulford swung wide through a left-handed sweeper. Mulford didn't make it easy for Manwill when he tried to pass Manwill back in the next corner. Meanwhile. Grant was glued to Wallace's rear fender. Grant would stick his bright red Honda to an inside line to show Wallace he was there. Wallace showed great composure while under pressure. As the laps wore down, Grant became antsy, possibly from frustration of not being able to make a pass. With the white flag out, Grant tried to shoot to the inside line of Wallace, which resulted in his taking a sample of Perris Raceway's prime soil. When the checkered flag waved, it was Wallace with a well-deserved win, Manwill with an impressive second. and Mulford with a solid third. After dusting bimself off, Grant came across the finish line in eighth, resulting in fifth overall. Results 50 (4-6) STK: I. TreYOf SdvnKll: (KTM): 2. Andrew Silverstein (Cob); 3.
