pass for the lead and held on for the moto win. His 4-1 moto scores were good enough for second, but Griffin won the class overall with 1-2 finishes. Right behind the Intermediates was a strong field of Novices. Brett Rothas continued his domination of this series and ran away with both moto wins. Behind him, second overall was up for grabs. Chris Rodriguez, Matthew Williams, Leon James and John McCracken were all in the mix. In the first moto, Williams finished second, followed by McCracken, Rodriguez and James. Rodriguez got the best of the other three in the second moto with a second-place finish. James, Williams and McCracken followed him. After all of the scores were added up, Rodriguez and Williams had matched each other in points by finishing 4-2 and 2-4, respectively. As you know, the second moto is always the tie breaker, and Rodriguez's second-place finish gave him the nod. Williams took a respectable third overall. The Sportsman X race is kind of an open class that anyone on a fullsized bike can enter. As a result, there is always an interesting mix of 125s and 250s, two-strokes and four- strokes. When the gate dropped, Baptista got the holeshot. He led for the first three laps before being passed by Bryan Watson, who blocked Baptista in a corner that preceded a rhythm section. Rothas, the Novice class hotshoe, also got past Baptista a few minutes later. At that point, Baptista started to fade badly and ended up finishing last. Rothas continued to press from second position, but Watson rode a great race and held on for the victory. Kyle Jones finished third, followed by Fresno's Craig Ranells, Patrick Ornelas and Baptista. Once again, Hanford had an amazing group of 80cc Beginners - two full gates' worth, to be exact. "E-Man" Flumes and Kyle Kessinger traded moto wins in the first division, while Templeton's Topher Ingalls swept both motos in the second division. Bryce Huffman won the Novice class with 1-1 moto scores as well. Hanford Fal'lll1lunds Hanford, California Results: September 1, 2001 [RDund 5J WMN: 1. Sherri Cruse (Yam); 2.
