Extreme Sports Series Canadian Motocross Championship Round 10: Walton TransCan Jean-Sebastien Roy took fourth for the day, and held on to his lead in the overall points. "A lot of people were falling out there, and I was scared of DNFing: Roy said, "so I rode a little slow, smarter, and safe. I wasn't releasing the bike, clicking the gears, or using the clutch. I stayed in first gear around the corners. I was just trying to survive out there. Seeing that Blair was only one spot ahead of me, I didn't have to worry that much. I had an l8-point lead. All I needed to do was finish the race and I would have won the title. STORY AND PHOTOS BY RAY GUNDY WALTON,ON,CANADA,AUG.19 t round 10 of the Extreme Sports Series Canadian Motocross Championship, YZ250F pilot Simon Homans, the class points leader, took the 125cc holeshot and the lead. After five laps, he was still pulling away and going through lappers. Apparently, the mud was no problem for him at all; it was a different story for the other riders. Homans took the moto win, and with it the 125cc East championship. This year in Canada, both 125cc-class championships were won on YZ250Fs; Brad Hagseth won the West, and Homans won the East. After the first 250cc moto, the second moto was canceled due to a rainstorm, as most of the track was submerged. This was a dream come true for Homans, as he was able to take the championship after only one moto. "We only got to run one moto today - I won, so it was good: said a happy Homans after winning his first Canadian National Championship. "Finishing this championship with first place was awesome. It was pretty muddy out there. It was pretty hard on the bike, but I did it. I think the track was okay to ride the first moto, so it was okay for me out there. I got the holeshot and just kept on the gas to stay up front. I really didn't have any pressure out there at all. I had fun out there." Second went to Matt Maximoff after dealing with a few downed lappers. Only one rider - Mike Treadwell - passed Maximoff, but Treadwell A 60 OCTOBER 10,2001 • cue 1Ab0ve) Darcy Lange _n the single 250cc moto and placed third overall In the final points. wasn't able to stay on two wheels after the pass, and Maximoff regained second and then cruised to the finish line for second overall for the day. Treadwell took third for the day and second in the overall points. Guy Giroux went down during the firsttum pileup but put ire one of the great charges of the day, pushing forward to fourth before moto's end. Chuck Mesley's bike died right after the last turn in front of the finish line. Mesley pushed his bike until it got stuck, and then he dragged it for a few steps until he was able to flip it over the finish line. Mesley took 13th for the day after running in the top 10 for most of the moto. Mesley took third overall in the series. In the 250cc race, Darcy Lange won the moto but fell short again for the 250cc championship. Lange dominated the first moto with no problem, and he only went down •• n • _ s before the finish line. He had to settle for the overall and a third in the overall points in the series. "It was good, but we didn't get to ride the second moto," Lange said. "I got 25 points for the day. At least I would have liked to have gone out there and tried to get the number-two plate. Now it is over, so I will look at next year to try to get it." Marco Dub€! was second overall. After he pulled the holeshot, he had problems in the second turn but was able to take over second place again and stayed there for the whole moto. Blair Morga'n was looking for his chance to take the championship again, but he fell short this year after a DNF at the first round, which was also a mud race. After taking the overall at the last round, it looked like Morgan had a chance, but with only one moto, he had to settle for third and third overall. my back now. I came here this year to win, and I did it. I am happy to get my Canadian Championship. I can go back to the States again this time with a championship.
