$720. The Greer/Morrison team came through with second, and the Gilleland/Luckadoo team took third. "I have done several types of racing - motocross, arena cross, GNCCs - and this event was different," McLevy said. "The promoter did an excellent job of putting it on, and I had a lot of fun." "What made this relay-style race hard was having to sit for an hour and then jump on the bike and ride with your muscles cramping up," Earl said. "Sometimes it took a quarter of a lap to get back into the groove." Danny Ray Morrison took the holeshot off the A-class start. However, a slick uphill gave Dave Scearce and Lonnie Rider a chance to get by. Scearce and Rider turned their battle over to their teammates, P.A. Heavner and Jeff Silvers, respectively . For the rest of the race, the Scearce/ Heavner team used their experience in racing SETRA and North Carolina Hare Scrambles races to help them negotiate the tricky hills and set up an untouchable lead. The Scearce/Heavner team took first, and the Rider/Silvers team came in second. Recovering from early uphill problems, Morrison/Stone team took third. Ultra Series and Mega Series-winning motocrosser Adam Overcash thought it would be a novel idea after a two-month break from riding to check out his endurance at a hare scrambles. Overcash took the mud and slippery hills in stride while battling with Mike Lancaster for the lead in the Solo class. During the first lap, Lancaster ran into the back of a slower rider, giving Overcash and Jason Jones the opportunity to get by him. The next five hours was filled with back-and-forth action and several stops to drink, gas, eat, and change gear. Although in the lead during the fifth hour, muscle cramps were too much for Overcash and he bailed out, settling for third. Lancaster put in a final charge to take the win, and Jones came in second.
