In heat three, Bob Hicks used his inside starting position to maximum advantage, taking the win ahead of defending champ Bast. Former Junior champion Eric Carrillo led all the way in the final heat of the round_ After two rides, Bobby Hedden was the only rider with two wins and a perfect score. In round three, Felicio, Carrillo and Bast got their second wins and were tied for second place with eight points apiece, one off the pace of Hedden, who closed out the middle round with a fairly easy win. In round four, Hicks got back in the winners' circle, as did Bast and Bobby Hedden. Both Felicio and Carrillo dropped off the pace with a second- and third-place finish, respectively. In the first heat of the finai round, Bast had the opportunity to make up his deficit to Bobby Hedden. but after leading the first three laps, a rare mechanical problem cost him the win and a chance at a run-off that would hllve decided the championship. Hedden finished out the race in front and had his perfect 15point maximum aboard Bill Wamock's brandnew laydown GM. Re"uh" BEG: I. Mike fo\asumoth: 2. Jeremy WakJ: 3. Jim Roberts: 4. ~. KTM-mounted 250cc Beginner Patrick Snyder got out in front of the combined 125/250cc Beginner gate as the race action got under way. Right behind him were 125cc pilot Jason Ellis and 250cc competitor Brian Wilson, until 125cc rider Brian Fowler fought his way into second. Ramirez was working his way up through the pack. Ramirez made the pass for second on lap two and then went by Snyder for first in the rhythm section. From then on, it was clear sailing for Ramirez. who rode to win number one. Fowler rode through to take over second and raced on to the runner-up spot, ahead of 125cc hotshoes Randy Guzman and Jason Ellis. Snyder grabbed the ring again as race two expioded, leading 125cc stud Nick DeCarlo and the rest of the pack out onto the course. Guzman moved on up to third as Ramirez was dosing in on the leaders again_ One by one, Ramirez picked off riders until, by midrace, only Snyder remained. When the leader bobbled, Ramirez took over the point, with DeCar· 10 just inches behind him. Ramirez opened a little daylight at the very end of the race, winning the moto and the overall 125cc Beginner division. Guzman, with steady thjrd-place finishes, wrapped up second overall, ahead of Nick DeCarlo and Chad DeCarlo. Patrick Snyder overalled the 250cc Beginner division, topping Jesse Casavs and Joey Yakubik in the final results. Derek Gainer was the big winner in the combined Vet race, blasting everyone in both motos to claim the overall Over 30 Novice crown. Fellow Over 30 Novice Randy Reese shot out to lead the pack when the gate dropped, just ahead of Gainer and John LaBreche. Gainer moved quickly, leaping into first and dragging LaBreehe with him. Gainer and LaBreche went bar to bar fOT the whole race, battling right through the pipes, with Gainer taking the win by a whisker. Gainer snapped the holeshot in the second half, but LaBreche SU'l'rised him with a quick pass. Gainer retaliated and the war was on. Once again, the top two pulled a lead, but this time Gainer had just a little too much for LaBreche, winning the second half by a comfortable margin and capturing the overall Over 30 title, ahead of LaBreche. Reese and Rich Guerin filled out spots three and four.
