charged around the course. At the finish, it
was Jarrett, closely followed by Kelley and
then Katin. Kamow, with brake problems, fInished just off the pace in fourth.
Kelley, with his cat-quick reflexes, got his
fourth Pro-moto holeshot of the day. Winless
so far, he was determined to take the moto
and secure the overall. Katin, Honda·mounted
Michael Winslow, and Karnow dropped into
formation right behind him. Jarrett had a poor
start but was ripping through the pack. Katin
stalked Kelley relentlessly, looking for a way
around. By halfway, Kelley, Katin, Karnow
and Jarrett were a freight train, battling each
other from turn to turn. Katin challenged for
the lead through a sweeper but touched Kelley's rear tire, sending the Yamaha rider to the
ground; he remounted in fourth, with his fork
protector dangling dangerously close to his
front tire. When the checkers fell, Kelley had
his moto win and the overall. Following closely were Karnow, Jarrett, Katin, Paris and
Winslow.
