On the other end of the age-andexperience scale, Acton Engineering/Terrel Piping's Cody Acton of Maiden, North Carolina, earned his very first win ever by taking over the 50cc Shaft Beginner class of 18. Qualifier winner Benjamin Gann looked good to repeat in the main event but took a spill. Acton was there to fill the gap, and steady riding paid off for him. This year, the 50cc classes of the Rollercoaster Racing Tour could be called "The Cody Classes." There are five: Cody Acton, Cody Cornwell, Cody Tyler Bridges, Cody Griffin and Cody Moore. Of these, Griffin and Cornwell lead the points chase in the 50cc Shaft Beginner class. Bridges sits fifth in the 50cc Shaft C class, a class peculiar to the Rollercoaster Tour. Cornwell is third in the points in the 50cc (4-6) class, and Acton is fifth as of this round. _ ShellIy Supen:rass Sllellly, NIII1II CuaIlINl Ilaulb: July 28, 2801 (Round 81 50 SHAFT BEo: I. He refurbished the British machine two years ago and also rode it to a victory in his class at last year's event here in Chehalis. "It was one of the better trials events I've ridden in the two years that I've been with AHRMA," Spriggs said. "The sections were more demanding than most courses, and they required a great deal of throttle control. My first loop took me two hours to complete, due to a bottle- neck of riders. My second loop was much quicker. I got through it in a half-hour. It was my best run with a clean [perfect score]. It was a great run, and a really good feeling to put in a zero loop." Lael went 8-4-3 (15) on his three loops of the tight, technical course to post a win in the ~odern Classic Expert class. Mike Fenner (8- 7-5) and Neal Trevorrow garnered low scores in the first loop - with Trevorrow tallying six points - but Lael's final-loop score of three points placed the rider from Portland, Oregon, on top.
