both the 13-rider Open A contest and the seven-rider Pro Am contest, winning both races easily. Corsetti celebrated with his usual "Y"ah, babyl" as he took the checkered flag and rode his victory lap with his niece aboard his bike. Nicholas Moore, just 15 and in his rook;" year as a Pro, finished first last week at Delta and finished first in every event he rode during the W~ Coast Amateur Nationals last month. On this night, the Mallott's HondaYamaha/Sierra Water/Mother's Polishes/Union 76/Wiseco-sponsored Rotax rider finished second in the Open A class and third in th" Pro Am contest (after a qu<:stionabl" decision) ~hind Casey Yarrow. "See you next week at Lodi," Moore said as he left the track at the end of the night. "There are still a lot of races left this season." Brandon Bemardeau won an exciting victory in the 60cc C class. Bemardeau came up through the pack from last place to finish first. In the Pee Wee Modified class, Michael Avila took first, aheed of Bernardeau and Michael Martin. In the Open C class, Raymond Diaz, riding 8 Peninsula Tire Service-sponsored Rotax, came off the line first with the holeshot and struggled to hold on to that lead throughout the race until th" last straightaway. As he rounded the third turn, about to greet the ch"ckered flag, Ed Andrews pulled in front and crossed the line first by about half a bik" length. Andrews finished the heat race in the sam" fashion, stealing the victory from Diaz. Michael Snedden and Garrett Willis came around the first tum from the start line of the l00cc Stock class shoulder to shoulder, but Willis managed to take the lead and finished the race in front of Snedd,,"_ In the Open B class, Kenny Carlotta, riding _ a borrowed Yamaha, came back after winning his first ride in the Open B last week to plac" second, behind Hiratoshi Kawahara. In the Vet A contest, Jason Pauli rod" across the line first, in front of Stev" Hall and Brandon Rodriguez. Chris Canepa finished first in the 250cc B/C class. Perry County Fair Voltz Shocks 'em BY RuPERT X. Pw.Err NEW LEXINGTON, OH, JULY 17 In an electrifying performance, Dwight ·W.B." Voltz busted out some high-voltage moves at the Perris County Fair, site of round nine of the Ohio County" Fair Motocross Series. The rider from Mount Sterling, Ohio, is a common sight on the podium, yet a big win here was r"fr"shing for th" Torco Fu"ls-sponsored racer. Aft"r slamming his heavily modified Kawasaki KX310 in for second place in the Open class, Voltz was feeling the need for a win. Playing second fiddle to Chris "L..d-Man" Lead~at"r in the big-bore division was all the inspiration Voltz needed; when the time came for the Over 30 contest, Voltz leaped out on his trusty green rocket and annihilated the competition, completely ruling this one-motoformat event. "Gentleman" Gerry Bennett took the runner-up spot, while "Buffalo" Bill Reiss rounded out the podium in third. Reiss wanted a win, too, however, so he sank his teeth into the Over 40 class, besting Yamaha~mounted Jim Dickerson for the win. F&S Suzuki's Derrick Arledge took the measure of the 125cc B and Schoolboy classes, romping off with both wins in style on his RM125. Laneast"r's Dylan Walker strolled off with the 50cc (7-8) class victory on his King Cobra 50, whil" Justin Witteman, son of District II fast guy Jim Witteman, spanked the 50cc (4-6) class. L..vi Kilbarger sl"w the 65cc class, but he was unable to beat Open and 16-24-c1ass winner Chris Leadb"ater's younger brother Joey in the 80cc (7-11) division. Sport Cycles' Jake Mohney won the 8xc (12-15) class, while Chris Ro~rtson set the pace and took the victory in the 80ce Extra class. It was a solo run for Bub Thomas in his mastery of the 250cc A class, whereas Steve "Animal" Andrich slipped his MPS-backed Yamaha YZ250F in for the 125cc A and Over 25 wins. Antelope Valley Fairgrounds Horton Lands Lancaster Win BY DENNIS SureR LANCASTER,CA,JOLY28 The Ant"lope Valley Fairgrounds was the site of an AHRMA West Regional Short Track event ~nefiting the family of Rod Damron. Speedway promoter and grader operator Brad Oxley brought in his usual fine short track. J"ff and Chris Apple spent a night and a long day preparing the facility for racing. The regular contingent of California AHRMA competitors who ride multiple classes provided some very exciting racing. Tom Horton tried a Suzuki twin in the Sportsman 250cc race but was unable to pass Joe Steffen's Yamaha. Steffen pull Horton off the line in the Vet race, with Br8d Spencer in third. Horton got by Steffen on the second lap, .nd at midrace Spencer powered by Horton on the back straight for the win. Delta Speedway Corsetti Does It Again BY KAREN GOULD Starwest Motocross Park STOCKTON, CA, JULY 28 The final races of the season at Delta Speedway in Stockton, California, were sponsored by Valley Harley-Davidson. A barbershop quartet provided some extra entertainment. At the ~ginning of the evening, a parade lap was led by Mark Corsetti, the leader in the pack of Pro rid"rs in District 36, in honor of the late Rob Damron, who lost his life recently in a race at Perris, California. Corsetti rides a Woods Rotax with the number-one plate this year, and he's b..en riding hard to keep that pla~. Th" two thundering Lanry Wilburn-built Triumphs ea",d out to a big lead. Then Greg Wilbum bobbled and Horton was gone. Cliff Edginton pass"d half the Novice 600cc class in one tum and rode off with th" win on a Honda Twin. "Old Dave" Cheney aced the restart of th" Novice 750cc Sportsman show and held on for the win over Bannakian. Ron Moor" and Marshall Jennings trophied in the Senior and Super Senior races. The Woods family provided "ntri"s in a number of support classes, and 65cc AMA Grand Champion Andy Wood rode lik" he was on a rail to win the Youth race. Bradley Spencer hustled his DTX Yamaha to a nice win over Alex Wood's Honda in 250cc Support competition.
