When Glendenning went down, Savage inherited second and began a march on the leader. Sorochuk held off Savage in a blistering last lap, but his first·moto DNF ruled out a shot at the overall. Ukewise, first-moto winner Powell's crash-induced sub· par performance elim· inated him from the hunt. Thus, two hard· fought, consistent second-place finishes rewarded Savage with the overall 60cc (9-11) crown, Recovering from his crash, a last-lap pass. pass and repass in the rhythm section brought Glendenning home third, which was good for second overall, ahead of Ahleen and Deveraux. As the 250cc Pros lined up at the gate, Kris Papworth had his eye on the overall. He would eventually take the prize. but not before overcoming a stiff challenge from Sam Mortensen. As the gate dropped, Garet Pilgrim jumped out in front. Papworth quickly muscled past in the first section, while Russ Pearson and· Mortensen closed on the leaders. Mortensen fought his way into second and was busy chasing down Papworth when Papworth went down in a hairpin tum, handing race one to Mortensen. Pl!Ipworth recovered for second, leading PeZlrson and Blake Suitter through the pipes. Pilgrim pulled another holeshot in moto two, and again Papworth took the lead through the first couple of jumps. Josh Taylor was up front this time, while Mortensen was buried midpack. Papworth pulled a lead, determined to keep it this time. Mortensen was working his way forward but was running out of race.
