Graham's victory in the Schoolboy
class came easier, as he won by large
margins both times out.
The Mini classes, as usual, were
among the largest of the day, with a
good crowd on hand. Young Cole
Boutwell was a big winner in the
small-bore classes as he rode to a
two-moto sweep in the 85cc (12-13)
class and also topped the Supermini
class. Following Boutwell home in the
85cc (12-13) contest was local rider
Chase Borders, who took the runnerup spot, ahead of a fast Blake
Massey. In moto two, Massey rode to
a strong second place, but his firstmoto fourth was not enough to beat
Borders' 2-3 moto finishes. Massey
did, however, garner runner-up in the
Supermini class with a pair of second-place finishes.
The 85cc (14-15) win went to
Miles Parker (1-1), and the Junior
Mini crown went to Dylan Daniel. A
consistent Hunter Waiters followed
Daniel home. The Youth-class wins
also went to Daniel.
Preston Thomas came out on top
of the 65cc (7-9) division, and Clay
Clements was unchallenged in the
65cc (10- 11) class.
The 50cc classes had great
turnouts in all divisions, with Alabama's Mikey Norris topping the 4- to
6-year-olds, ahead of Cobra-mounted
Miles Thornton. Hunter Mims bested
the 50cc (7-9) group. The Oil-Injected win went to Byron Dillard.
A light turnout in the Vet classes
did not affect the quality of racing. In
addition to the show put on by May in
the Over 25 A class, close racing WGlS
the order of the day in the other age
classes. Racer/evangelist Kevin
Cozadd was the winner of the Over 25
B class, and Davy Duprel bested track
announcer John Davidson in the Over
30 wars. The Over 40 win went to
Alabama's David Crain, aboard a Gas
Gas, and Georgia's Steve Corlee
topped the Over 48 field.
The C classes were heavily populated this month, with the 125cc C
class being the largest of the day. YZmounted Curt Ward was impressive
as he swept both motos, ahead of a
consistent Jonathan West. Following
in third was Chad Williams, who
turned in a pair of consistent races.
Williams came back to best the
250cc C field and take the win with a
two-moto sweep.
The next scheduled big happening
at the Monster will be an AHRMA Vintage regional to be held over the
Labor Day weekend on Monster
Mountain's super Vintage track. This
race will feature the top Vintage racers from all over the Southeast
region.
