AMA Pacific Northwest Motocross Series Round 2: Mountain View Motocross Park STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT SANDY, OR, JULY 23 MA National number-95 plate holder Billy Binckley spent several years campaigning the AMA National Motocross and Supercross Series, but the Washingtonian is now sticking closer to home. At round two of the AMA Pacific Northwest Motocross Series, BinckJey scored an overall win in the competitive 250cc Pro class at the Mountain View Motocross Park in Sandy, Oregon. Slightly more than 400 riders from as far away as Northern California were on hand for the second round of the series, which pays Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki and Husqvarna contingencies. Joining Binckley in the Pro-class winners' circle were Dan Moore, winner of the 125cc and Over 30 Pro classes, and Oregon's Tony Graves, winner of the Over 25 Pro class. Many impressive performances were logged in the Amateur ranks. Among the elite was Cobra- and KTM-mounted Landon Currier, winner of the 50cc (7-"8) class. Currier was well on his way to a double-class decimation after carding a 1-1 tally in 50cc class. Currier won the first 60cc age-group moto and was well on his way to a win in moto two when the rider from Brush Prairie, Washington, encountered problems and did not finish. This greatly attributed to Jared Wood's moto-two victory. However, Wood finished ninth in moto one, and Cobra rider Zach Rawlins won overall. Moore, who made the trek from eastern Washington, scored his first of two overall wins on the day in the 125cc Pro class. Moore had his hands full with local Honda rider Mike Storm in both motos. Storm won out in the opening-moto clash, followed by Moore, Kelvin Schoen, and Washington riders Garhett Carter and Tyler Kavaney. Moto two was a reversal; Moore jumped out front at the unleashing and held off all of Storm's advances to snare the overall win via 2-1 placings. Oregon's Ryan Huffman finished third in moto two but did not finish moto one after smashing his foot while leading and went 11-3 for seventh overall. Huffman also led the first 250cc Pro moto for two laps, but the pain was too much for the Action Motorsports Yamaha-backed rider and he dropped out entirely on the third lap. This placed Moore, riding the Shumate/One!Tuning By Travis-supported Suzuki, into the lead, which he maintained to the finish. Binckley also capitalized on Huffman's misfortune, finishing second. Graves, Terry Hamness, Kavaney and J.R. Vielle filled out the top six spots. Binckley darted out front in the second moto, but Huffman sneaked a wheel underneath him and then held the point position to the checkered flag. Binckley put in a solid performance to finish second, which was good for the overall win via 2-2 consistency. Moore overcame a poor start to trail the Yamaha-mounted duo, with Suzuki rider Don Bisceglia, Hamness and Kavaney following. Moore (1-3) grabbed second overall, trailed by Hamness (4-5), Graves (3-7) and Kavaney (5-6). n e _ 50 cue I e CAbove) Tony Graves contested four classes In Sandy, Oregon, wittI his best pertonnanc:e coming in the Over 25 Pro class, which he won overall. Moore's day was complete after he decimated the field in the Over 30 Pro class. Moore had his hands full with Graves, but Graves couldn't bump Moore out of the lead. Moore, who won at least one moto in each class he contested, took the top money, ahead of Graves (2-2), Bisceglia (3-3), Hamness (4-4) and Jeff Mac Donald (7-5). Honda-mounted Oregonian Joey Mancuso manhandled the competition in the 125cc, 250cc and Before The Hill B classes, topping one of the Northwest's top B riders, Ryan Abrigo, in two classes. Mancuso won all six motos he entered, even progressing through the combined Pro ranks after a second-wave start in the 250cc class. Abrigo went 2-2 on the day in the 250cc class, followed by Tyson Blood, Doug Lange and Eric Rogers. In 125cc action, Dan Hewitt, Blood, Shon Series and Victor Griel filled out the top five. Abrigo went 14-2 for eighth overall. CN Mountain View Motocross Parll S.ndy, Oregon Results: July 22, 2DDI (Round 2 of 5J (Above) Landon Currier won both 50cc (7-8) motos. Graves, a four-class contestant on the day, greatly improved his overall payoff with his win in the Over 25 Pro class. Graves carded a 1-1 sweep, ahead of Washington's Todd Hinders, the second-place finisher overall with 2-2 performances. Hinders briefly led moto two, but Graves took the lead a few turns later and then sped away from the rest of the field to finalize his sweep. Jason Matthews worked through the field after poor starts to trail the Suzuki-mounted duo and net third overall with a 3-3 tally, followed by Washington riders Jay Jackson (5-4) and Darin Criss (6-5). 50 (4·8): I.
