Dreyercycle.com Midwest Motocross Championship by Maxima Midway Motosports Park . Baker Takes It By MARK BUCHANAN MITCHELL, IN, JULY 7-8 idway Motorsports Park hosted the inaugural Dreyercycle.com Midwest Motocross Championship presented by Maxima, which featured a special format for Amateur motocross with 30-minute-plus-one, lap motos for the 125cc A, Heavy A and Open Four-Stroke classes, instead of the normal five-lap motos. The remaining A and B classes ran 20-minute-plus-one-lap motos, with the Youth and C classes running 10 to 15 minutes plus a lap. Because of the lengthy motos, the first set of motos was run on Saturday and the second on Sunday. With temperatures in the 90s and high humidity, the longer motos really tested the riders' endurance. Jeff Baker dominated the 125cc A and Heavy A classes, winning three out of four motos on a Fox/Dreyer Cycle Yamaha. Rodney Carrier nailed the holeshot in the first Heavy A moto on an S&S Powersports/Suspension Plus KTM, in front of Roy Horton, on a Neisen Enterprises/Maxima Honda, and Kevin M 64 AUGUST 29, 2001 • cue • • Lampe, on a Bridgestone/ Thompson's Motorsports Honda. Carrier held the lead for the first lap, followed closely by Baker and Lampe. Scott Metz held fourth on a MotoXtremes/Maxx Pitts Suzuki, and Michael Zylstra moved into fifth, in front of Horton. Baker passed Carrier on the second lap for the lead and Lampe started to pressure Carrier for second. Lampe made the pass on the next lap, and Horton moved up to fourth, in front of Metz. Horton passed Carrier on the fifth lap for third, and Metz got by Carrier a few laps later for fourth. The running order stayed the same from there, and Baker took the win in front of Lampe and Horton. Metz finished fourth, and a tired Carrier took fiM in his third moto of the day. Baker took the holeshot and led the entire second moto, in front of Lampe and Barry Hall, on a Flash's Suzuki. Metz held fourth at the end of the first lap, and Zylstra moved into fifth on the second lap, in front of Michael Faulk, on an F&S Suzuki, and the final running order was set. Baker got the overall with both wins, and Lampe finished second in both motos. Metz took third with a 4-4 n _ .... s score, and Hall (9-3) edged out Zylstra (7 -5) for fourth overall. Carrier didn't run the second 250cc A moto after taking wins in the Open Four-Stroke and Over 30 A classes. Carrier nailed the Open FourStroke holeshot, in front of Hondamounted Wayne Ginder in both motos. Tim Pridemore held third at the start on Saturday, riding a D&D Oolitic Citgo/Suspension Plus Yamaha, and quickly moved into second, behind Carrier. Metz held third, in front of Yamaha riders Bryan Ridge and Darin Cardwell. Metz fought with Pridemore and Carrier for the lead and took the lead for good on the fourth lap. Carrier finished a close second, in front of Pridemore: and Brad Lentz took fourth on a Quality Windows and Door/Motoracing.com Yamaha, in front of T.J. Blake, on a Suspension Plus/Paul's Cycle Yamaha. Carrier led the second moto for the first five laps, with Metz a close second. Metz passed Carrier for the lead on the next lap but gave it back after sliding out in a turn. Hall ran third the entire moto, in front of Pridemore and Lentz. Carrier took the overall in front of Metz, and Pridemore claimed third, in front of Lentz and Hall. Baker and Metz battled for the holeshot in the first 125cc A moto, in front of Scott Craven, on a Suspension Works Yamaha. Baker led at the end of the first lap, and Metz held second, in front of Craven and then Blake Jones, on a Maxx Pitts Kawasaki. Metz fought Craven for two laps before getting a flat tire and fading to 10th. Jones fell out of the top five, and Honda rider Ben Graves moved into third, in front of Blake and KTM pilot Tim Pridemore. The top four stayed the same, with Baker taking the easy win. Honda-mounted Kevin Studley moved into fifth near the end of the moto. Baker and Metz battled for the holeshot again in the second moto, with Metz taking the top spot on the first lap. Baker kept the pressure on Metz, and Craven held third, in front of Graves and Jones. Metz and Baker fought hard for the lead and started to pull away from the field. Baker went down right after Herman's Highway on the fifth lap but held on to second, in front of Craven and Graves. Yamaha-mounted Derrick DeWitt moved up to fifth on the same lap for the final running order. Baker took his second overall with a 1-2 tally, and Craven (2-3) finished second, in front of Graves. Metz (10-1) claimed fourth overall, and DeWitt (6-5) finished fiM. ~ Midwey MotlIsparts Parle Mitchell, Indiena Results: July 1-8, ZOOl WMN: 1. Chelsi Dunkelberger (Kaw): 2.
