AMP/SFI Los Banos Top Sun Summercross Series Round 4: Los Banos Fairgrounds Pestana Back on Track Bv single-row start, Pestana knew a quick getaway was mandatory, as Hageman had proved in prior rounds that he is a passing specialist. In fact, Hageman's two prior wins saw him blaze through the field after starting in that very last position. At the wave of the flag, Pestana got a good jump, and by the end of lap two he had made his way to the front of the field. Hageman, once again proving his amazing ability to make passes, got by David Boothe, Craig Truglio and Billy Jurevich by the third lap. The problem was, Pestana was already a quarter-lap ahead and clicking off consistently fast laps. Although Hageman gave it his best, Pestana was not to be caught,. thus ending Hageman's win streak. JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS LOS BANOS, CA, JULY 14 ormally a year-round household name in local Nor Cal motocross, Jeff Pestana instead spent the first half of the season recovering from several injuries and just recently began riding again on a regular basis. Consistently gaining back his speed, the veteran Honda rider finally chalked up a victory as he dominated the Top Gun Shootout main event at round four of the AMP/GFI Los Banos Top Gun Summercross Series, held at the Los Banos Fairgrounds. Gridded among a talented field of riders including the winner of rounds two and three, Harold Hageman - Pestana utilized a favorable sixth-position start and won by a huge margin. In fact, Pestana consistently gained time lap after lap, and at the checkers he had nearly a half-lap advantage on the runner-up finisher, Hageman. "I wanted to win big, because I knew I was the fastest out here tonight," said the. Clawson Motorsports/Fox/ Arnette Goggles/One Industries-backed Pestana. "I had a little bad luck in both Pro classes earlier but felt my speed was good." With Hageman, piloting a Fox/ FMF/Bridgestone Tires-backed Suzuki, placed in the last position of the N "You can't win 'em all," Hageman later said. "Jeff was on tonight, and I knew he would be tough to catch with such a good start position." The race for third proved to be a good one, as Truglio and Boothe went at it bar to bar for several laps. With passing money to be made by each rider, every position was important, and the two swapped positions several times until Truglio made a pass stick on the white-flag lap to round out the top three. The AMP crew welcomed yet another huge turnout, as more than 300 riders took to the supercrossstyle track. Other than a freshly rebuilt set of whoops, the track remained the same, and with the constant addition of sand, the already good track conditions continue to improve week after week. Joshua Greco topped a 17-rider field in the Pee Wee (7-8) Stock class, piloting his Polini to dominating, back-to-back wins while Cobramounted Ty Keenom checked in with a 2-2 score for second overall. Keenom got redemption in the Open class after swapping wins with Greco to take the overall via a 2-1 tally over Greco's 1-2 score. Showing that the oil-injected Yamahas and Suzukis can still moto, Gunner Sigler topped the Pee Wee Junior class with a 2-1 score over Daniel Gonzales, who finished up with a 1-2 tally on the night. And in Pee Wee (4-6) Stock action, a couple of KTM riders topped the field, with Aaron Williams posting a perfect 1-1 score over R.J. Mendez, who checked in with a 2-2 tally. Tyler Freeman topped the Superminj class with a pair of moto wins over Kent Snyder (2-2), while Luke Layton (2-1) cleaned up in the 80cc Novice class, beating out series points leader Ross Pacheco (1-2). Another huge 80cc Beginner class featured two divisions, and a pair of Honda-mounted brothers took the top honors in Division One action. Jarred Holt took the win via a 1-1 score, while his brother Jesse followed up with a 2-2 posting. In Division Two, Jeff Welker beat out William Hoppner for the win. eN Las Banos Fairgrounds Los Banos, California Results: July 14, 2001 (Round 41 TOP GUN SHOOTOUT: I. Jeff Pestana (Hon); 2.
