LUXEMBURG, WI, JULY 14 t;"";J his round of the Fantasy Moto Stadiumcross Series was designated and recognized by the AMA as the Wisconsin State Championships. This was the first-ever recognized State Championship for the state of Wisconsin. The event featured a $5000 Pro-Am purse, along with National Championship-sized trophies. Port Yamaha rider Matthew Hopkins took home some of those trophies, as he completely dominated the 13-24, 125cc Band 250cc B classes with first-place finishes. TUF Racing rider Chad Johnson also took home a share of the lion's purse, as he won all of his main events in the 125cc A, 250cc A and Dash For Cash classes. More than 175 entrants raced the man-made track during the evening's program at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds. Dan Weinkauf put his Yamaha out in front of the 125cc B pack, with Hopkins hot on his tail. Hopkins and Robert Loire were side by side going up the step-up section, with Hopkins getting the edge coming down and outpowering We'inkauf to the next corner to take the lead in front of the spectators. Hopkins stayed low through the doubles and spectator jump to pull out to a five-bike-length lead on the first lap. Loire was challenging Weinkauf for second, almost making a pass stick by the step-up. Tyler Smulders moved into fourth on the second lap, getting into the mix and battling for second. Weinkauf couldn't get any drive out of the slick, hard-packed corners as Loire pulled alongside. On lap four, Smulders challenged fo\ third as he used his flat-tracking skills to dive in under Loire and outpull him over the rhythm jumps into third and right behind Weinkauf. Going into the last lap, Hopkins was checking out in front of the pack with a huge lead. The battle for second between Weinkauf and Smulders was heating up. Smulders stuck his front tire in on Weinkauf and went down, dropping back to fourth. Loire took back third and stayed there for the rest of the race. Hopkins won by a landslide, with Weinkauf in second. Loire was third, Smulders a disappointing fourth, and Matthew Mraz rounded out the top five. Hopkins also won the 13-24 Non-A division. He was challenged early on by former Mini star Bradley Ripple, I • n e uv s Williams, former factory rider Keith Bowen, and Rodney Van Eperen, along with seven other eighth-liter machines. Williams soon gave up the spot to Bowen, and Van Eperen also sneaked around by the end of the first lap. Bernie Plummer challenged Van Eperen late in the race for third as the two riders got side by side in the corner by the spectators. They hit the first double side by side and then launched off the spectator jump, but Plummer was soon panic-revving his Honda as it nose-dived into the ground hard, sending him off the bike. Plummer remounted in last. Johnson checked out with the victory, and Bowen settled in for second. Van Eperen, who won the Over 25 Masters class, was all alone in third at the end of the main event. Williams and Chris Graap rounded out the top five. Johnson also won the 250cc A contest, with Bowen in second. Johnson also won the Dash For Cash, over Bowen. Jake Dobbratz got a surprising holeshot in the 125cc C main event. Luke Erickson and Jacob LaCount battled for second early on. LaCount got through the uphill section quickly to pull alongside Erickson. Meanwhile, Erickson stuck his front tire into Dobbratz; they tangled together, sending Erickson to the ground and handing second over to LaCount. LaCount and Adam LeCloux battled for second, but LaCount pulled away as LeCloux slid out on the back stretch, dropping to sixth. LaCount and Dobbratz were side by side over the spectator jump on the final lap; LaCount's desire to win must have been stronger, as he passed Dobbratz through the switchback section to stay in the lead.
