Cycle Ranch MX Park Easley Takes It Easily By GARY T. DeER FLORESVILLE, TX, JULY I Pro Circuit/Kasson Yamaha-backed Luther Easley went 1- 1 in the Schoolboy class at Cycle Ranch's second race of the year. Kawasaki·mounted fast girl Kristi Myers was not far behind, settling in for a comfortable second in mota one. Corbett Schoenfelt fin· ished third, followed by Drew Ward and Mike Nolan. In the second moto, Myers pulled an outside-line holes hot, with Easley right to her inside. As they went down the first· turn hill, Easley took over the lead and never looked back. Schoenfelt also got around Myers and finished second. Myers took third, with Ward and Nolan rounding out the top five. Yamaha-mounted Bo Patrick and Jeremy Hardin exchanged mota wins, holding back 20 other hungry motoheads in the process. Patrick won the first moto after mixing it up with Thor/Spy/FMF/Alpinestars/Yamaha of San Antonio's Chris Goldman and Hardin, but Hardin won the all-important second moto, just edging out Patrick. Jesse Hatcher, Justin Cabrera and Ivan Zarazua rounded out the top five. Other Beginner-class standouts included Eric Comeau, Joey Sandoval and Racer's Haven's "Bad" Brad Bellamy. Kristi Myers' little sister Lindsay had a fantastic day of racing, claiming the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open class wins. During the second 60cc Open mota, San Antonio's Kyle Swan· son looked ready to take the checkers when Myers suddenly turned up the heat and passed Swanson with only a bike length to spare. Derek Howerton, Cody Briggs and Myka Wallace followed. In the Over 30 division, KTM/Suzuki of McAllen/Tucker Rocky-backed Bryan Monjaras took the overall, going 2-1-1 for the day. Suzuki racer David Bidham kept the pressure on Monjaras all afternoon but could not get past the speedy KTM rider in the second moto. Bidham went 1-2-2, with Roland Esparza, Dean Swanson and A. Thomas rounding out the top five in mota one. Esparza, Swanson and Keith Heap did likewise in moto two. Expert racer Chad Ward made the trip from Alabama to check out the new Cycle Ranch facility. Ward looked right at home as he blasted up and down the red, loamy hills, winning the 125cc Expert and 250cc Expert classes. J and M Racing/Maxima·backed Todd Downs was working overtime, trying to get around Ward. He came very close to pass~ ing Ward during the final lap of the second moto but ran out of time. Downs ended his day with a 2-2-2 tally. Jason Krempin and Austin, Texas' Rowdy Flanagan iooked impressive, but they couldn't quite keep Ward's pace. Krempin finished third in the first moto and did not finish the second. Flanagan finished fourth, with fellow Austin hotshoe Will Kasson taking fifth. In the second moto, Flanagan, San Antonio's Donnie Roland, and Kasson rounded out the top five. Local fast guy Brandon Beabout broke his wrist while qualifying for the Loretta Lynn's regional race at Village Creek MX Park. Some sayan overly aggressive move by Beabout's' teammate was the cause.
