(Right) Ryan Huffman finished second overall in the 250cc Pro class via 3-2 finishes at Washougal Motocross Park. WASHOUGAL, WA, JULY 8 alifornian Evan Laughridge struck again in what has been an impressive stint in the Northwest this summer for the Suzuki rider from Forest Ranch. At round one of the AMA Pacific Northwest Championship Series, held at Washougal Motocross Park, Laughridge connected on wins in the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes to snare the lion's share of the Professional purse. Just shy of 900 riders from five western states and Canada were on hand for the series' opener, but it was the Suzuki-mounted Laughridge who emerged as one of the day's top performers. Laughridge scored the pair of overall Pro-class wins, despite winning only one of four motos. Oregon's Mike Corder won the first 125cc and 250cc Pro-class matos, but the Kawasaki rider couldn't match those performances in the second mota of either class, handing Laughridge overall wins via 2-1 and 2-2 tallies, respectively. Laughridge, who has won CMC Pac West and AMA District 27 Motocross Series rounds prior to this day's wins, started off by picking up his first of two overall wins on the day in the 125cc Pro class. Oregon's Ryan Huffman darted ahead of the first mota, followed by Tiger Lacey and Corder. Lacey quickly moved around Corder to set up a close battle with fellow southern Oregon rider Huffman, taking the lead shortly afterward. Lacey, riding the Suzuki Canada/ Answer/Temecula Motorsports- (Left) Mike Corder ran away with the first motos in both the 125cc and 250cc Pro contests but couldn't repeat those performances in the second motos (Below) Josh Hill bottoms out his lOt en route to a 1-1 sweep of the aocc (7-11) class in Washougal, Washington. C 38 AUGUST 15, 2001 • cue. e Travis Murphy ran second for a while, but Huffman progressed through the field to finish second at the finish, good for second overall. Corder got a poor start and could only muster a seventh-place finish, which was still good for third overall, ahead of Graves (5-5), Binckley (4-6) and Moore, who placed a credible third in mota two and used a 10-3 tally to nab sixth overall. Another of the day's top performers was Emmett, Idaho's Cole Siebler. The Suzuki jockey won two classes overall, winning all four motos he entered in the 125cc and 250cc B classes and handing defeat to top Washington riders Dale Ainslie and Ryan Abrigo in both classes. Moore, who has enjoyed phenomenal success in the CMC Pac West Series, ended the day on a winning note by topping the Over 30 A class with a double-mota sweep. Bisceglia and Graves were Moore's closest competition; Graves snared second overall via 4-2 placings. Terry Hamness (3-3), Bisceglia (2-4) and Rick Hansen (6-5) rounded out the top five overall. In the 60cc age-group classes, Landon Currier scored a win in the 60cc (7-8) portion, ahead of Oregon's Jared Wood, while Tevin Tapia hammered the 60cc (9-11) class with a similar sweep to top Jerrid Southard. eN Washougal Motocross Park Washougal, Washington Results: July 8, 2001 [Round lot 5) backed RM, took the point position from Action Motorsports' Huffman after outjumping the Yamaha rider on the massive downhill, but Lacey's lead was short-lived, as he fell on lap four and Corder, who had also displaced Huffman, held the lead to the finish. Laughridge overcame a poor start to trail Corder at the finish. Californian Daniel Blair rode impressively to net third, ahead of Lacey, who charged from near the tail end of the field to finish fourth, ahead of Tracy Johnson and Huffman. "I got stung by a bee twice," Huffman said. "I was running third at the time and kept trying to get it out of my jersey. Once I got it out, I picked up the pace, but I had fallen to sixth.' Lacey grabbed the lead at the start of mota two and headed fellow Suzuki rider Dan Moore and the rest of the 19-rider field on the opening lap. Lacey's lead lasted for three laps, but on lap four Moore took the lead, with Laughridge and Corder in tow. Moore held it to the finish, but his 11thplace first-mota finish dropped the rider from Yakima to fourth. Laughridge won overall after Lacey got around Corder on the final lap. n e vv s Laughridge (2-2), Corder (1-4) and Lacey (4-3) finished ahead of Moore overall. Tony Graves (7-5) was fifth overall. Billy Binckley and Don Bisceglia headed the first 23-rider 250cc Proclass mota. Bisceglia placed his Suzuki in the lead, leaving Binckley to fend off Team Green's Corder in a battle for second. While Bisceglia faded to an eventual seventh-place finish, Huffman forged forward on the opening lap to take the lead after getting around Corder, Binckley and Bisceglia in one swoop, but Corder later took it back. Corder rode an amazing pace, placing large ground on the rest of the field for the win. Laughridge again overcame a bad start to finish second, ahead of Huffman, Binckley, Graves and then Lacey, who started off the mota in 23rd and charged to finish sixth. Laughridge led the abbreviated second mota from the get-go to the finish to snare his second overall win of the day, earning nearly $1000 plus contingency money for his efforts. 50 OIL·INJ: 1.
