Utah Sport Riders Association Summer Series Round 9: Cedar Raceway Park POV\Tell Pounds Cedar Bv Los Banos Fairgrounds: Harold Hageman (874) was the Top Gun Shootout winner in Los Banos, California, ahead of runner-up Daniel Blair (921). three seconds of Hageman and looked to have the speed to make the pass. As the two entered the whoop section, Hageman negotiated a lapped rider flawlessly while Blair lost his rhythm trying to get around the same lapped rider. Hageman took the win a few bike lengths ahead of Blair, while Pestana, Jurevich and Harold rounded out the top five. With a big smile, the friendly Hageman quietly recounted his efforts in only a few words. "Me and Jurevich hooked up early," he said, "and when he took Blair wide, I made my move. I got kind of tired near the end and knew he was charging. I'm just glad I got the win, and I want to especially thank my mom and dad for all their support." In 125cc Novice action, local resident Jack Ludlum took the victory with a 6-1 tally. Fast guys Aaron Diciano and Eric Stoke, who finished first and second, respectively, in the first mota, both suffered disastrous second motos while Ludlum took the wire-to-wire victory. Nick Thiel turned in a 7-2 score, which was good enough for the second spot. Diciano rounded out the top three via a 1-10 score. In 80cc Novice action, Justin Enos aced both motos for the overall win. While Enos ran away with both mota victories, the second moto featured a good race for the second spot between Joey Harris, Ross Pacheco and Luke Layton. The trio battled all the way to the checkers, with Harris edging out Pacheco for second. However, Pacheco's 3-3 tally proved good enough for second overall on the evening, while Harris (6-2) rounded out the top three. Ruben Hernandez III topped the 60cc Open class via a 1-1 score. Hernandez was untouchable, leading every lap of both motos. Charlie 54 AUGUST 8, 2001 cue I Moore and Dylan Lane, both recent graduates from the 50cc ranks, ended up with tied scores on the evening. Moore's 3-3 showing earned him the runner-up spot, while Lane finished up with a 2-4 tally for third. CN 1llI F........1I1s 1llI , Cllifemil llesults: June 23, 2881 [Round 2) TOP GON SHOOTOOT: I. Gary e n e vv s DICK GOODWIN CEDAR CITY, QT, JQNE 30 uzuki-mounted minicycle hotshoe Landon Powell took on - and took over - the 85cc (7-11) class at the Utah Sport Riders Association motocross get-together held in Cedar City on June 30. Powell displayed impressive versatility, coming from behind in one outing and leading most of the second mota. More than 400 racers were on hand to plump up all the classes, and the 85cc (7-11) class was no exception. When the gate dropped to start the action, Brodie Humphries shot out in front of Shawn Strong, Clay Cutler and the rest of the pack. Powell was coming on strong, moving up to third and then passing both leaders in the rhythm section to take over the point. Humphries stayed strong in second, and Logan Binggeli brought his Honda up to duel with the two yellow bikes out in front. The top three were running at a little faster pace than the rest of the pack, and Powell began to stretch a lead. Binggeli made a move midrace to take over second, setting the finishing order as Powell, Binggeli and Humphries. S Powell shot off the line just ahead of Humphries and Braden Butterfield to start the second half. Humphries made a quick pass for the lead over the doubles on the west side, but Powell got him right back in the rhythm section, an area that he had dialed in all day long. Once back out in front, Powell turned it up and began stretching a lead. At this point, Powell looked safe for the overall, but the battle for second place was a raging, bar-to-bar brawl between Humphries and Binggeli, with the prize being second overall. Whoever survived would be the runner-up. Powell cruised home with the win and the overall 85cc (7-11) title, while Humphries emerged from the war with Binggeli to edge him for second overall. Consistent racing by Butterfield earned him fourth overall. The 125cc Pro class was also banging bars on Saturday, and this one was all Monte Montague, who overcame bad luck in the first mota to dominate the action on his way to taking the overall. Garet Pilgrim ripped the holes hot, but Montague was just a tick behind until he was Cedar Raceway Park: Gray Davenport (916) leads eventual overall 125cc Intermediate winner Jake Christensen (8), Chase Nelson (132), Aaron Smith (11) and the rest of the pack at round nine of the Utah Sport Riders Association Summer Series in Cedar City.
