The seasoned veteran of the bunch, Pestana walked away with the 250cc Pro-class win earlier in the evening and was definitely a crowd favorite. Occupying the last position, Pestana, aboard a Clawson Motorsports/Pro Circuit/Motul/IRS-backed Honda, knew a good jump was crucial. "I've been off for a while with some injuries and am just getting going again," Pestana said. "I've got the track pretty much figured out, and I need to get ahead of these guys early to have a shot at it." At the drop of the flag, 125cc Intermediate speedster Robert Harold quickly moved to the front and began pulling away early on. However, this was a 15-lap race, so the fast foursome had time to reel him in, and Hageman decided to set the pace. After quickly making his way by Jurevich and Blair, and leaving Pestana even further behind, Hageman caught and passed Harold by the halfway point and looked untouchable. Hageman looked especially fast through the long whoop section and steadily began putting distance on the field. However, once Blair got through traffic, he turned it up a notch and was making ground on Hageman little by little. Despite being one of the few riders aboard a 125, Blair occupied a favorable fourth position and felt he had a good chance of winning. "I've been watching some of the other races and have my eye on some good lines," Blair said prior to the start of the event.
