ed about winning the sparkling new bike and told the crowd, "I need this bike more than you know. I am riding a worn out '89 WR250." His young daughters were on hand to help him celebrate and wish him a happy Father's Day. From the drop of the first gate, it was all Dubach, as he left little to chance, claiming all four holeshots and leading every lap of every moto in route to a perfect 1- 1-1-1 weekend. Dubach was flawless and may have to change his nickname, "Doctor," which he earned early in his career after making many trips to the hospital, to "Rolex." These days he is more consistent than the expensive watch manufacturer. Dubach's victory did not come easy, though, as there was plenty of talent ready to challenge him. "I just wanted to get out front and ride my own race," Dubach said. Dubach stepped up the pace on Sunday, turning 2: 11 lap times that were four seconds faster than the day prior. The battle for second overall ended up being a three-way battle involving Chris Young, Craig Davis and Ty Davis. The three were evenly matched as they traded moto finishes over the weekend. The start of each race proved to be crucial. Taking second overall on an RM, and the only two-stroke in the top five, was Young. "Race Tech revalved my suspension between motos, and it really made a difference," Young said. The West Cost Motorsports/Suzuki/O'Neal/Scott-backed rider went 42-3-3, edging Craig Davis for second overall. "It is a full sprint race out there," Craig Davis said. "You go as hard as you can for 20 minutes!" The Factory R&D/Barnett/3 Brothers Racing/Balanced Health-sponsored Craig Davis posted a 3-3-2-4. Davis had to settle for third after tying Young on points. Off-road legend Ty Davis experienced some bad luck while racing at Mammoth. While running in second place in moto two and keeping Dubach honest, the Montclair Yamaha/Race Tech/Big Gun/Cornwellbacked rider experienced a flat tire, all weekend, but a couple of off-track excursions kept him out of the winner's circle. Mark Stuckert, Ed Cornish and Bob Blake were wheel to wheel for four motos in the Old Timers Amateur class. Stuckert, who holds the number-one plate, proved why he is the champ, besting the class with a near perfect 1-2- 1-1. Stuckert had his work cut out for him, as Cornish dogged him the entire four motos en route to second overall via 2-4-2-2 finishes, with Blake claiming third with a 3-1-43 tally. CN Steve Plattonl scored the 38+ Expert class win. MulI1U1lh MauntlIin MX Mlmmath Lakes, California Results: JIIIIlI 15-17, 2001 BEG: I. Erik H,,"son; 2. Trecy Rossmen; 3. Shaun Clem; 4. "My bike was running great, but it started to feel loose, eventually I was forced to look down and saw my rear flat," said a disappointed Ty Davis. The Master class was like a who's who of 1980s AMA motocross, with the likes of Donnie Cantaloupi, Joe Waddington, Dan Berg, Tom Carson and Pete Murray on the line. Age did not slow or thwart their competitiveness one bit, however, as there was no backing off and lots of plastic exchanged on the weekend. Cantaloupi and Murray exchange moto wins after some fierce battles, each coming out with two moto wins. Going into the final moto, Cantaloupi was in the lead on points, but a first-lap crash dropped him to fourth overall. It was the consistent riding' by the former five-time CMC number-one-plate holder Berg taking the overall via 4-2-2-2 finishes. Murray missed out on the overall by one point, taking the runner-up spot. Claiming the final spot with some hard riding while constantly being pressured was O'Neal/HSY backed Ed Guajardo.
