Pleasure Riders Hillclimb Presented by Dunlop Radial RoYer light Truc:kTIt'eS, ~~~DON£DP • u.-r "'flU "5i""'" " ...,,;;.w: 7iri7Ar lIi8#&-i*.. ~ By BUD NORTHROP CAYUGA, IN, MAY 27 The "W~d Child" - Tom Daniels from Amboy, Ulinois - put on a Fast Time show at the Pleasure Riders Hillclimb on May 27. Having already claimed the Fast Time award in the John Lee Hillard Memorial race earlier in the day. Daniels turned the trick again in the second event of a day·and·night doubleheader, the night race being the rained-out event that had been scheduled for the night before. Daniels flew his "Wild Thing" - a 750cc Kawasaki triple sponsored by Fast By Gast . high over the top of the 150-foot hill in 3.808 seconds on his first ride, setting a time no one would seriously challenge the rest of the night. "Fast Andy" Fortner was true to his name, but his very quick 4.020-second run on his "Hondasaki" triple left him in second place. Third place went to Mark Goodman Jr., also riding a Kawasaki triple. Brothers Wade and Lane Schultz ran fourth and fifth on their Yamahas. Daniels completed a perfect day with a second win, this time riding Steve Shafer's Harley in the Open class, carding a very good 4.032·second time for the win. Mike Kessel put his KZ1000 over in 4.139 seconds for sec· ond place, and Lane Schultz topped out in 4.208 seconds on his Norton for third. In Youth-class action, Donnie Robbins and Dylan Brady brought the crowd to its feet as they delivered outstanding rides in the 50cc Automatic class. Brady drew cheers from the crowd with a terrific 6.49 I-second hill-topping time on his little Polini in the first round, while Robbins tossed his chain and managed only 76 feet. Dakota Blakney joined in the excitement as he delivered a fine 6.782·second ride on his Action to find himself in second place at the end of the first round. In second-round action, however, Robbins demonstrated why he carries the National number-two plate as he flew his Cobra over the jumps under full throttle and sailed over the top in a startling 6.006 seconds. Brady responded with a fullthrottle· blast run of his own, looking every bit as fast as Robbins, but the clock stopped at 6.086 seconds for second place. Chris Peters joined the six-second club with a 6.922-second fourth· place ride on his KTM, and Garrett Fetters topped the hill in 8.630 seconds for fifth place.
