Owner Jamie Thompson teamed with Dixie MX and KaceTek LLC to form the 2001 KaceTek Summer Motocross Series. This race was round two of 10. Located alongside the Choctawhatchee River, Riverside is a sand rider's track, featuring J BO-degree highbanked berms, sensible doubles and a large step-up finish-Line jump. Dothan, Alabama's Evan Smith was the overall winner in combined Pee Wee racing. In mota one, Smith pulled a strong holeshot on his Cobra, followed by brothers Justin and Jonathan Woodfin. Smith held the point until he fell over the finish-line jump. Justin Woodfin took advantage of the spill and moved out front on his Yamaha BOcc fourstroke. Smith quickly remounted and closed on Woodfin. Time ran out, and he placed second. Jonathan Woodfin was a steady third on his Yamaha. Mota two was all Smith·s. He grabbed the holeshot and charged through the whoops each lap on his way to the win. Jonathan Woodfin held second the entire distance. After battling with Dylan Bruner and Valliant, Oklahoma's Gary Scott Christian, Justin Woodfin came home third. Buck Hartzog kept his win streak intact in the 125cc C class. In moto one, Jackie Cook and Clint Stagner took tums out front. Halfway through lap two, YZ125-mounted Hartzog was out front for good. Wes Tindell finished second, ahead of Honda rider Kevin Thompson. In race two, Hartzog had the lead by the end of lap one. Both Stagner and Tindell had trouble in the early going and struggled to get back in the hunt. Behind Hart20g's sweep, Thompson's consistent 3-3 tally was good for second overall, ahead of Cook's 5-2 score. Tindell and Stagner rounded out the top five. Fort Rucker soldier Larry Leuci remained perfect in the 250cc D class. Bruce Allen and Dwane Kroger got the starts, but Leuci quickly took the lead both times out.
