half a lap later off four and held on for

the race, Wood and McGrane rode
side by side, and they crossed the
line still side by side, with Wood leading by an inch or so.
The Sportsman event was similar.
McGrane took the lead off the restart
from Wood and Bill Stillwell. Wood
took the lead on the third lap but bobbled in the second turn on the next
lap. He worked his way up to
McGrane's rear, and he diamonded off
the third turn to shoot into the lead in
the first turn on the last lap and used
a slide job to make McGrane check
up slightly off two. This time, Wood
crossed the line a length in front.
Greg Simmers was the quickest off
the line in the 250cc B final, followed
by Cory Long, John Sassaman, Devin
Jessop and Bryan Hazel. Long took
the lead at the end of the lap, while
Jessop and Hazel moved up to battled Simmers for second. With Long
pulling away, Jessop and Hazel finally got by Simmers on the sixth lap
and stayed side by side to the end,
with Hazel getting the nod.
After sitting out for a month and a
half with an injured ankle, John Lewis
returned to action in the 125cc class.
He gated second, behind Long, with
Hazel, Ben Ludlow and Jonathan Jordan behind him. With Long riding the
inside line to perfection, Lewis moved
up to the outside groove and gradually inched his ABBA Systems/Bromley's Suzuki KTM into the lead by the
start of the final lap.
Brett Pugh finally took a win in a
class where he has to shift. After
dominating the Oil-Injected class two
years ago, he had a hard time with
the manual shifters last season. At
this event, he took the lead from
Austin Greenland, with John Long
following. Greenland hung tough and
took the lead on the sixth lap off the
second turn, but Pugh retook the lead
