CCS Florida Region Moroso Motorsports Park Prieto Sets NeV\T Record By LISA THEOBALD WEST PALM BEACH, FL, MAY 28 hane Prieto set a track record with his Yamaha R 1 during the Unlimited Grand Prix race at Moroso. His lap time of 1 :29.07 was the fastest to date on the reconfigured track. He also led - and won - all six of the races he entered: the Unlimited Grand Prix, GTO, GTU, Unlimited Supers port, Middleweight Supers port and Middleweight Superb ike races. In the Shootout, Prieto was out front from start to finish. On lap one, Mauro Cereda's GSX-R750 was only half a bike length behind, with Marco Martinez, Dave Mcintyre, Jim Pihokken, Damian Weber and Rick Narup in hot pursuit. They stepped up the pace on lap two, with Prieto and Cereda riding hard out front in a two-rider breakaway. Further back, in third place, Martinez led the rest of the pack on his GSX-R750. Prieto set the new lap record on lap three. Cereda was only a few bike lengths behind and about 20 lengths ahead of Martinez. On the next lap, Cered a high-sided and his machine shut off. He made a remarkable save and restarted the bike but suffered a huge drop in time, though not position. He was still in second place but now 30 lengths behind Prieto, and only 15 ahead of Martinez. Out front, the Custom Glass Company/Pirelli/GMD Computrack/Sharkskinz/Vortex-backed Prieto was all alone with a four-second lead over Cereda. Martinez was close behind in third, nine seconds ahead of fourth place. Prieto took the checkers all by himself, followed by Cereda, Martinez, Mcintyre and Narup. Prieto led all six laps of the GTO, while Cereda dominated second place. They broke away from the pack early, and Prieto's momentum increased with each lap. At the end of the race, he was out front, all by himself. He finished ahead of Cereda, Martinez, John Ashmead and Pihokken. S 217·623·4428 www.cauntrymatarsinc.cam WHY WAIT? CALL!
