By thi s tim e , Ba u ha d worked her way up fro m a poo r sta rt and was next in line to overtake Mann. Ba u knew she ha d to get around fast , an d she di d , and b e fo re a n oth e r la p wa s co m p le t e d she had caught a nd pass ed Patterson. Bau was riding well, a nd when Satch well bobb led , s he was in positio n to ta ke seco nd . Satchwell reta liated and was soon pu lling aw a y fro m Ba u , and she held on fo r s econd in th e mota . Pa tterson p icked up on s ome of Ba u 's lines and a ctually m a de ba ck som e of th e t im e s he had lo s t, but she couldn 't get close e no ugh to m a ke a pass .
