Ginolfi took what looked like a n e asy win , with Walde le , Skutnik , Metzger a nd J e ffre y Du n la p t rail ing. Dun lap passed Altieri for fifth o ne turn befo re the chec kered flag . Metzge r he ld th ird until he had to pu ll off with mechanical problems on the la s t la p. Waldele got the se cond -moto win , with Skutnik, Dunl ap and Ginolfi trai ling . T he 85cc ( 12 -1 3) and (14 -15 ) clas s es lined up on a combined gate for the ir first moto , and Sean Wallace , aboa rd his Suzuki , led th e combined classes th rou gh the firs t turn. Trailing Wallace ou t of the first turn were Ayres , Bart Holt , Re p a rd and Cheney . Wallace wa s out front by a bout three seconds at the sta rt of lap two , but he got cross -rutted in the corner following t he downh ill ju mp along the back tree line and remounte d all the way back in s ixth . Ayres in her ite d th e le ad th is time , w ith Ch en ey m oving a ll the way up to sec o nd . Repard was thi rd, Holt dropped to fo urth and Zabrow sk i wa s now fift h . Hazzard Hili: Dustin Gibso n flies to the 200cc A-elass win and third overall at round one of the Mid-South Championsh ip Summer Camp Series in Vanleer, Tennessee. Mid-South Championship Summer Camp Series Round 1: Hazzard Hill M cLevy Levels Hazzard Hill By overall, while Gibson flew into first place in the 200cc A class and thi rd overall . Both of them are sponsored by Sarge's Cycles, Pro Ac tion of Ken tucky, Moose and FMF . Sam pson, a 250cc/Open A ride r, placed thi rd in his class a nd fourth overall. "I bent m y brake pedal while fol lowing Mc Le vy ," Allen sa id , "a n d I had to sto p and hav e m y dad bend it b ack. I ne ve r d id ca tc h b ac k up to McLev y." Ho we ve r, Alle n hel d his gro un d . T h e two ride rs left t he othe rs right fro m the get-go, and eventua lly th e y widened their gap by 30 seconds. "I was last off the start," sa id Per fo rmance Eng ine e ring / S m ith -ba c ked Gibson , "and I worked my way to the fro nt and caught Mike Sampson on the second lap. We passed each other several times ." Th e tw o set a p a c e of th e ir ow n, a wa y fro m th e othe rs . "Dus t in a nd I ha d a g reat rac e !" said Sampson . "I ha d a bad tire cho ice today, and it wou ldn 't hook up. " They battled pretty ha rd on the last la p , wit h Sam ps o n o ut front. Gibson tried to get ar ound him severa l times , but to no a vail. It d idn 't matter; Gibson beat him due to a djus te d start time. Shortly th e reafter, 200cc A rider J eremy Ketchum pa ssed the ch ecke re d flag . He had gotten the holeshot bu t los t his lead when Gibson passed him on a corner. "We ca ught up to 250cc/ O pen A, and Dustin got arou nd some of th em , but I couldn 't," Ketc hu m sa id. Ke tchu m got into a good g roove a nd pick ed off six 250cc/O pen A rid - DEBBIE A LLEN VANlEER,TN,MAY I 3 h e Mid -South Champ ion ship Summer Camp Series opened its sea s o n a t a brand -new location in Vanl e er , T e n n e s s e e . T h e owner of Hazza rd Hill, Robert Rogers , was gra cio us enough to let 204 riders rough up his 500 a c res with no com p lain t. Eve ryone ag re e d it was a be au t iful setting and a gr eat tra ck - especially the overall winner, Josh Mc Levy. He rode a smooth ra c e and stayed o ut front to win the first round . "Th is trac k was a bsolute ly awe some, brand new , and lots of fun! " e nthus e d McLevy , who has b e en in t he top five of several GNCCs th is sea son . "I ha d a smooth ride all day ." Off the start of the 250c c/Open A class , P.A. Allen jum ped o ut to lea d 10 riders around a turn a nd into the woods . He spu n pa s t Allen a nd ma ne uvered to a 10 -s econd lea d . "I stayed o ut front , a nd I tried to ride s mooth and not ma ke any m is takes," McLevy said . "The cou rse wa s set up so well that there wer e plenty of line s to pass the lappe rs ." He flew on the s m a ll motocro ss t ra ck and came in first in the 250c c/Open A class a nd first overall. Oakley-backed Allen , Mike Samps o n and Dustin Gibson were the next riders to pass th e c hecke red flag .
