It didn't take long for Rya n Terlecki to jump into the m ix, n L.::I 48 JUNE 20, 2001 • cue e muscl ing through into se cond as th e first lap heated up . Walte rs al s o st epped up , repassing Terlecki a few tum s late r, while Dub a ch was saili ng along out in front. As the 25 -m inute plus-two-Iaps contest settl ed in , it be came clear that Dub a c h an d Wai ters were th e class of the field , opening up a si za b le lead o n th e rest o f their c om petitors. Dub a c h in particular wa s im p res s iv e , blitzing t he wh oops la p a ft e r lap a nd be ing th e on ly ride r to ex e c ute a "triple/ q uad" jump com bination th rough the rolle rs . Dub ach 's re lentles s pressure eventuall y took its toll even on the determined Walters, as he lost touch with the leader on the final laps. The Doctor flas hed t h ro u g h th e pipes with a n easy rac e -one win , whi le Walt e rs scored a sol id second. Te rlec ki was t he b est of the rest , nail ing d own third place . In moto two , th e dynam ic duo of Du b a c h an d W a lte rs le d Ja s on Ma tthews an d Terleck i o ff th e line. J o sh Ke ll ogg and C o ok qu ickl y joined the lead pack chasing th e two leaders. Du bach had the clean air , but Wa lters , focused a nd de term ined , was absolute ly h a m m e rin g o n h im lap after lap. While the two leaders wer e work ing the crowd into a lather, a little fur ther back , Ke llogg , Cook and Te rlecki were putting on a show of th e ir own , banging bars throughout (Below left) After some bar-banging battles, Ryan Terlecki emerged with third overall. (Below right) Dubach (1) and Walters (2) went one-two i n Las Vegas, Nevada. ne_s the middle stages of the race . Although th e action was hotter and ha rd e r - and longer - this t ime a round , th e e n d re sults mirrored those of moto one , w ith Du b a c h pu lling away from Wa lters in the wan ing la ps to post anothe r easy victory and captur e first place ov erall.
