Rou nd ing out the top five off the start were Ben F ire ston e , Rockwe ll, Jed Schappert and Fred Metzger. Conl ey had a five -s e c ond advantage a t th e sta rt of la p two , but Rockw e ll was cha rgi ng hard and pa ssed Fire sto ne to ta ke second and the n clos ed the gap to Co n ley. Firestone was re lega ted to third . On la p three, the top two remained unchanged . Schappert made his way around Firestone to ta ke third , while Metzger held o n to fifth . Metzger pass ed Firestone for fourth on lap four , dropping Firesto ne to fifth . The top -five ru n n in g o rd e r was no w Co nley , Rockwe ll, Schap pert, Metzge r a nd Firesto ne . Conley made h is start in th e s e c ond m ot o a repeat of th e first, as he go t off the g ate qu ickly and rounded the first tu rn once again with the lead. Conley again found hims e lf re lega ted to second. Firestone got back o n the throttle and moved back up to third. Metz ger d ropped to fourth , and Schappert was n ow fift h . Just in Meixsell blew away the entire class of 26 riders in the 125cc C class on his new, c ontrov ersia l YZ250 F , as he exited the first turn with a huge lead in the first moto .
