Leac h's da y wa s hardly a washout , a s the rider from Albany, Oregon, had earlier won the Before The Hill Pro/Intermediate class with a I- I sweep. On e of th e d a y ' s top performers was KTM-mounte d Pete Sannan . A c o ns is te n t top -thre e fin is h e r du ring th e arena c ross and Winter Series e ve n ts, today was Sannan's turn to sh ine. In Ryan Huege's absence, San nan scored overa ll wins in the 125cc and Before The Hill Junior classes to snare one of th e few double-class win tallies of the day , aboard the Gran Prix Cycles-backed KTM. Sannan's first of two overall victo ries came in th e Before The Hill J unior class. Suzuki rider Matt Craw ford pulle d the trigger fastest to lead the first moto , but Cra wfo rd lost the lead to fe llow RM rider Co dy Bu ya s at t h e m id wa y point and e ve ntually fa d ed to th ird at moto's e nd, wh ile Sannan dis placed Crawfo rd for secon d . Crawford (3 -2) , Buyas (1-4 ) , Jimi Bla ckwe ll (4-3 ) and Colton Waibel (5-6) filled ou t the top five overall. Sannan rode to an impressive victo ry in the first 12 5 c c Junior moto , followed by Blackwell, Buyas, Crawford and Honda -mounted Ben Hurl burt, but he had his work cut out for him in the muddy moto two. Sa nna n got a poor start bu t cla wed h is way into contention by picking off numero us riders each lap until closing in on Bu ya s a nd Hurlbu rt. With two la ps to go, it a ppe ared th a t S an n an ' s c hances of an overa ll win in th e class would be in jeopa rdy, but whe n Hurl - Kauffman impro ved upo n h is results in the earlier Be fore Th e Hill Intermediate class with a sweep of the 2 50cc Intermediate class, a board his Honda. Yamaha- mounte d Ba xter, who fin ish ed thir d to Kauffman and Er ic Rog ers in moto o ne , follo wed Ka uffma n to the finish in m oto two to s nare se co n d o ve ra ll w ith 3 -2 p laci n g s . Rogers (2- 3) finis he d th ird , a hea d of S uzuki rider Ger ritt S ch affe r (5 -7 ). A huge turn o ut of O ver 4 0 riders we re o n hand - 26 in a ll - but it was Yamaha YZ426F pilo t Mike Taylo r who came out on top. While fa iling to win ei ther moto , Taylor used a 2 -2 tally to top the Pro portion . Da ve Eakin won moto one but pulled out of moto two du e to the muddy condi tions . In Eakin 's absence, Yamaha rider Jim Thorp won moto two . Da ve Shepard had th e initial lead bu t faded , allow ing Thorp to take the lea d and finish there . However, an eighthplace finish on Thorp's part in moto one a ided in Taylor's win . Glynn Higgins (3-4) finished second o ve rall, followed by Carl Ch adwick (5-3). eN Albany MotDrsports Pa" Albany.
