Pro Privateer Mid-South MX Championship Series Round 1: River Valley MX Fowler Flies High at River Valley By DIRTBIKEMIKE ROSSEU.Vlu.E, AR, MAR. 11 fter two straight weeks of rain and the first two rounds being rescheduled, the Mid-South MX Championship Series finally got a break and opened at River Valley MX in Russellville, Arkansas. The Pro Privateer-sponsored series will visit 14 tracks in five states this year before the final round in June. Trace Fowler showed the 250cc Experts his rear fender as he grabbed the holeshot in moto one. Fowler's Kawasaki Sports Center-sponsored KX250's rear fender was all the other Experts saw during the entire moto, as he led from start to finish without a challenge. Cycle £, Marine Centerbacked John Adam ran second, while Louisiana Pro Jason Hyde struggled with a few Intermediate riders who were double-gated with the Experts. Bud Wilson, another Kawasaki Sports Center-backed Expert, and Shane Reed battled for their share of the Expert purse. Fowler motored around for the win, while Adam held second. Moto two began with Fowler railing the berm through the first turn ahead of the rest of the pack. Hyde and Adam battled throughout the moto, banging as if they were at an arenacross. Several times, Adam came out in front, but Hyde banged his way into second place as the moto was winding down. Hyde, Adam, Wilson and Reed followed Fowler at the checkers. Brandon Marley was the little Ironman of the day, topping two of the three classes he contested. Unbeatable in the 50cc class, Marley led from wire to wire in both motos A 34 APRIL 25, 2001 • c u e I _e as he bested Scott Bolton and thirdplaced Garrett Edwards. The 65cc class of 15 riders was just another ride in the park for Marley, as he again led from wire to wire in moto one and moto two. Marley also placed a very respectable fifth in both 85cc Junior motos_ The Over 30 Experts were the bonus class of the day, and Fowler again had no problems topping the field. Richards Honda/Yamahabacked Chuck Rule was second, while Blake Wingo followed the top two riders into the first turn, ahead of Mike Edwards, Jimmy Johnson and Rob Baxley. When Edwards slipped by Wingo, Johnson quickly followed, leaving Wingo to hold off Baxley on the last lap. Johnson made a last-lap effort and passed Edwards to take the third-place money for the moto. In moto two, Fowler caught another holeshot - his fourth, and his fourth moto win of the day. Rule was again in the bridesmaid spot. Edwards took third, passing Johnson, who stalled his bike and had to settle for fourth. Wingo rounded out the top five. One of the largest classes of the day was the Open Mini class. Pine Bluff's Ozzy Barbaree flew around the track, taking both moto wins. Tolland Weems finished close behind in second place in both motos. Barbaree and Weems were both zipping through the difficult whoop section, looking like future Pros. Jacob Hull and Drew Day battled in moto one, but the riders finished thjrd and fourth, respectively, in both motos.- Jeremy Holland and Jacob Bridges swapped moto placings for fifth and sixth. n e _ s ...---------------------------------,UJ "" ~ "" ~ is ~ 5 :I: 0.. River Valley MX: John Adam placed second in the 125cc Expert class and third in the 250cc Expert class at the opening round of the Pro Privateer Mid-South MX Championship Series In Russellville, Arkansas. The 125cc Expert class was double-gated with the seven 125cc Intermediate riders. Adam, aboard his Suzuki, emerged first in the first turn, just ahead of two Kawasaki-mounted riders, Expert Harry McMahan and Intermediate Nathaniel Benoit. Expert Jordan Ray held off Brian Brewer, who recently returned to racing following an injury. The fourth Expert rider, Jason Hyde, had a tough time back in the pack after a bad start. While Hyde was busy getting around Crane, Keel and Sampley, leader Adam was cruising around for an easy win. Benoit began an attack on McMahan, challenging the Expert rider for the second-place spot. McMahan was able to stay ahead until Benoit outbraked him in a sweeper. Hyde closed in and passed Brewer, who also let Crane get by before the checkers flew. Benoit took the Intermediate win, with Sampley a distant second. Crane was third, Brewer fourth and Scott Young fifth. Moto two began with Adam in the lead again, but Hyde was close. The two riders hung together a while, but Hyde slipped by and took the win and the overall. Adam motored around for second place, with McMahan third and Ray fourth. Pro Privateer Mid-South MX Championship Series Round 2: Four States MX Park Mason Jars 'em By DIRTBIKEMIKE Arkansas line. Nearly 200 riders showed up to compete on a track that HOOKS, TX, MAR. 18 he 2001 Pro Privateer Mid-South MX Series dipped into Texas for round two at Four States MX. With the series visiting five states this year, Texas is represented by this sandy course just 10 miles from the T had just enough moisture from earlier rains that it was nearly dust-free all day.
