Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship series
Round 2: Bnsh Busters Hare Scrambles
Leavin' Last,
Leivan First
By
FRANK LEIVAN
COlliNS, MO; MAR. 11
s 13 AA riders blasted around
the first turn at round two of the
Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship Series, eight-time and defending series champion Steve Leivan
was still on the line, trying to get his
bike started. Just as the last of the
pack roared out of sight, Leivan's'
WR426 came to life, and he set out
on a charge that would see him carve
through the pack, passing rider after
rider until he finally took the lead on
the final lap and secured the overall
victory.
"The start was all my fault," said
the SCR/Yamaha/Answer/Dunlop/
Silkolene-sponsored Leivan. "Since I
haven't spent much time on the bike
for about four months, I think I just
got a little ahead of myself - and paid
the price. Once I got going, I felt pretty good and just put myself in a position to capitalize on the mistakes the
other guys made. I was able to make
some passes work near the end of the
race, and things worked out."
The Brush Busters laid out a very
rocky 9.2-mile course, with a good
mix of single track and fast fire
