CMA Pro-Am Series, Central Division Round 3: Madera County Fairgrounds Hinson Clutches the Wins By JOHN BETHEA MADERA,CA,MAR.25 dramatic, come-from-behind, desperate drive by Casey Hinson in the second 125cc Novice moto was the hottest race at the third round of the CMA/Maxima Pro-Am Championships (Central Division), with more than 300 riders attending. A victory in the first moto appeared to be washed away when the hometown favorite buried his Suzuki in the second turn on the second lap in the final showdown, allowing the talented field of 14 racers to speed away. He had won the first contest, leading almost from start to finish, with Yamaha-mounted Southern Californian Jeff Alessi hanging within striking distance all the way. Bakersfield racers Justin Reese and Bryan Watson managed third and fourth, and Exeter Kawasaki racer Levi Gill was fifth. When the dust settled after his second-moto mishap, Hinson limped to his bike and re-entered the race in 12th, about a third of a lap behind the front-runners, who were rolling along like a freight train. Gill found himself in the lead as they crossed the finish line for the second time, with Watson second and Yamaha riders Matthew Williams and Michael Bunyea third and fourth. Alessi and Reese, who had also been hampered by the second-lap confusion, were moving back through the field quickly. By the third lap, Alessi had moved to sixth, while Hinson was getting his rhythm back and holding ninth. Watson passed Gill for the top spot. Combined with his first-moto fourth, this appeared to be enough to take the overall victory. With Watson and Gill now pulling away, the race for third began to take shape. Williams stayed in third through lap five, but by then Alessi was closing qUickly in fourth. Suddenly, Hinson burst upon the scene, in sixth with only two laps to go. When Alessi snatched third place with the white flag coming out, it placed him in an overall tie for the win with Watson. However, Hinson was still charging, and he captured fifth when the last-lap flag came out. He had a lap to chase down two riders to get the overall. He caught Williams quickly and set his sights on Alessi, now only a few lengths ahead with less than half a lap to go. A Idaho Meridian, Idaho Snake River Yamaha 2957 E.
