Hallett Motor Racing Circuit: Ty Howard powers his Kawasaki out of tum 10 en route to
a wet-weather victory in round one of RPM's Sprint series In Hallett, Oklahoma.
By midway, Carpet Dog and
Square Deal sat first and second
overall, followed by Team Cizznakel,
Crash Clinic, Idiot Blues and Team
Speedy Gonzales. By this time, riders
had cut a thin, clean line through the
dust-covered tarmac, leaving little
room for error. With only 50 minutes
left in the race, Idiot Blues' Steve
Moore may have stepped off that thin
line: The team that had held down a
top-five spot for the past three hours
crashed unceremoniously out of the
race. The nasty get-off ripped the
footpeg from the frame, and their day
was over.
At 5:58 p.m., Carpet Dog took the
checkers to grab first among the
Mediumweights. Square Deal took
second overall, ahead of Crash Clinic,
earning second Mediumweight and
first Heavyweight, respectively. Team
Cizznakel collected fourth overall and
second Heavyweight. Finally, Team
Speedy Gonzales finished fifth overall
to claim first Lightweight.
When dawn broke on Sunday, down
came the rain. As temperatures dipped
into the 40s, racers had to contend all
day with cold, rainy conditions.
In A Superstock, McBajn grabbed
the holeshot, but O~is Lance quickly
snatched the lead. However,
Kawasaki-mounted Ty Howard
pushed to the front, bringing Suzuki
GSX-R750 rider Pete Martins with
him. Howard promptly pulled a sizable gap on Martins en route to a
convincing win. On lap three, McBain
was passed for fourth by charging
Suzuki 600 rider Gregg Abbott.
Lance was Abbott's next victim, losing third on lap four. Then, on lap
six, Martins went missing, the victim
of low-speed crash on the slick track.
At the finish, Howard took first,
ahead of Abbott, who inherited second from Martins. Lance collected
third, ahead of McBain, and a dejected Martins rejoined to take fifth.

Reigning Formula One champion
Lance led Martins, Abbott, Jamie
Lane and Howard off the line in the
Formula One race. Howard nabbed
third from Abbott on lap two, then
took second up the inside of Martins,
clamping on the brakes for turn eight
the next lap. Lance lost his turn up
front when Howard went around the
outside of him in turn four on lap
four. Howard powered away to victory, and Lance was sucked into the
fight for third. In the end, he finished
seventh. On the last lap, Lane caught
Martins in third and shadowed his
every move. As the two drove to the
finish, Martins tucked hard to hold his
spot, but Lane got a better drive and
took second by mere inches.
Lance got another good jump off
the line in B Superbike, but this time
it was Martins who led into turn one.
As the leaders crossed the start/finish
straight for the first time, Martins was
already pulling away from Lance and
Lane. On lap three, Lane moved into
second with a gutsy move on the
brakes dipping into turn one, and the
finishing order was set.
Finally, Martins led every lap of B
Superstock to collect his second win,
ahead of AI Shepherd, Lane and
Lance. Martins stretched out a sizable
lead by lap two, but Shephard caught
him on lap four to make it a race for
the lead. Heading into the last turn of
the race, Martins was balked by a
lapper, which allowed Shepherd to
set him up for a last-chance pass.
Martins won the drag race to the
checkers, leaving Shephard to collect
second, ahead of Lane.
