r-----------------~:::> STC Pro Circuit Winter Series Ro nd 4: 290 Motocross Park '" 8 Peterson Stays Perfect By BRIAN COMEAU WALLER, TX,~. 18 he Pro Circuit Winter Serie~ finally came to its last stop. This race was originally scheduled for February 11 but was postponed due to rain. Then the make-up race was scheduled for March 4, but again rain made sure it never got started. The 273 entrants who made it out for one last try at it were rewarded with a perfect day of racing. Paul Peterson has been unstoppable in the 250cc Beginner class. To finish out the series with a perfect record, all he had to do was win the last two motos. In the first moto, he took the holeshot and never looked back. Behind him, John Forbish and Alex Rodriguez were battling for second, with Jody Bull trailing. Bull was getting heat from John Piper, who passed Bull before the end of the first lap for third. Bull found himself pressured by Dale Thomas for fifth. Peterson continued to pull away, but on the second lap he overshot a turn and went off the track momentarily. The mistake did reduce his lead, but he never lost the position. Behind him, Rodriguez and Forbish continued to swap plastic; the battle between the two Kawasaki riders must have been slowing them down, because Piper began to close the gap. On the third lap, Rodriguez passed Forbish, and it looked like he might begin to control the position, but Forbish came back in the next corner with an aggressive move. With the white flag out, Forbish followed Rodriguez around, and then, in the blink of an eye, he made his move, taking over the position and holding off the Memorial Tint and Alarmssponsored Rodriguez to the finish. Peterson had a comfortable lead at the finish and moved one moto closer to a perfect score. Piper and Bull rounded out the top five, taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Peterson took one more holeshot on his Fine Line Tattoo/Digital Ragesponsored Yamaha and began to establish a lead early on, pulling away from Rodriguez and Forbish, who picked up where they left off in the first moto. Behind them, Bull was leading Piper for fourth. Piper found himself in a battle for fifth place when CCRA/EFR rider Dale Thomas took over the position on the second lap. Circle T Chainsaws rider Forbish made his move on Rodriguez and began to open up a gap. By the end T Price (Cob); 3. Adam DeMoss (Cob); 4. Jonathan Cojocar (Cob); Ul 5. Jaresha DeMoss (Hon). of the third lap, Peterson had a ninesecond lead over the rest of the field. When the white flag came out, it was all Peterson, with Forbish in second and Rodriguez in third. Bull was holding down fourth. Piper passed Thomas and set out after Bull. The two raced all the way to the finish, with Bull barely holding off Piper for fourth place in the second moto. The 51cc (4-6) class had a race going all the way down to the wire for series points. Coming into the last round, Cameron Snedeker and Dawson Draycott were only two points apart. Exlmport Cycles/Planet Fish/Johnson Glass-sponsored Snedeker took the early lead in the first moto, with Paint Magic Yamaha's Draycott right there. Behind them, Highlands Kawasaki riders John Norris and Corbin Wieland were racing for third. Draycott's moto began to take a nasty turn on the second lap when he fell and finished out the lap in last. This bumped Norris and Wieland into second and third, respectively. It also moved Brian Graham into fourth. Draycott was charging his way back up to the front, but there wasn't enough time left for him get very far. Passing Polini pilot Gene Blount on the last lap and moving into fifth was as far as Draycott could get before the checkers came out, and Snedeker found himself with a little breathing room in the points chase. Norris took second, and Wieland rounded out the top three. Draycott had the lead early in the second moto, with Snedeker trailing and Norris holding off Wieland. Draycott couldn't hold off Snedeker, who took over the lead just before the end of the first lap. Draycott couldn't catch a break; he fell on the second lap and came by the white flag in fifth. Norris and Wieland again found themselves in third and fourth, with Draycott trailing Graham. Draycott never had a chance to race with Graham, making a mistake that allowed Blount to move around the Cobra rider on the last lap. When the checkers came out, it was Snedeker, with Norris and Wieland trailing. Graham hung on to fourth, with Blount behind him in fifth. Draycott had a rough moto, finishing sixth. _ 290 Mutacrass Part Wallar, TaliS Rasults: March 18, 2001 (Round 41 51 (4-6): 1. Cameron Snedeker (Cob); 2. J,,":,es Norris IV (Cob); 3. Crash Clinic's Scott Crawford led the pack into turn one, and he did his best to leave Carpet Dog, Idiot Blues and Team Cizznakel behind. By turn four, he had pUlled a two-second lead. McDonald Electric Racing, Marcus McBain, Square Deal, Champion Racing and GP Xtreme followed just a couple of clicks back. However, Carpet Dog's Marc Gifford slipped into the lead to begin lap two. Gifford turned up the wick on lap four, and Crawford gave chase, but Crawford was still smarting from a broken right hand suffered at least year's WERA GNF and he was unable to keep the pace. By lap six, Gifford had checked out and was already scaring the bejeezus out of lappers as the team ran away to victory. By MARK LOPEZ HALLETI, OK, ~CH 10-11 eam Carpet Dog sailed away to a crushing victory on the tight, 1.8mile Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in round one of the RPM Coca-Cola Superbike four-hour Endurance Series on Saturday. On Sunday, Ty Howard and Pete Martins were the big winners in the miserably wet first round of the RPM Sprint Series. Howard won the A Superstock and Coca-Cola Formula One races, while Martins earned first place in B Superbike and B Superstock. Warm temperatures and clear skies welcomed the 22 teams that signed up for Saturday's endurance test, while relentless rain and frigid, gusty winds pounded Sunday's riders.
