~~CT.ATLLJ.P 7RADIAl ROVER "~iil.t;iiN_T TR_f!f!! .... LaFountaine took command of the race, winning the second half with ease. Frantically clawing his way back into contention, Parker found himself in fourth place entering the fmal comer, 15 feet from the finish. In a Superman move, he dived to the inside, rode Sullivan to the edge of the track and outdragged him up the finish-line tabletop to claim third by mere inches. This broke a four-way tie and moved Parker from fourth to first overall. laFountaine, Fraughton and Sullivan followed in the overall standings. In the 125cc Beginner wars, Justin Weddle blasted out front to start race one, but Matt Kerr and Nick DeCarlo were right behind him. Kerr quickly moved to the front and opened up a lead. Jason Mindach was moving toward the front, but Kerr maintained his lead, leaving Mindach to circulate in a solitary second spot. Ronnie Krause came on late to nip DeCarlo for third. Krause got the race-two holeshot, but Kerr zipped past in the first comer. Brandon Smith, Chad DeCarlo and Krause were also chasing. Kerr methodically opened up another lead one that would ensure him of the win and the overall 125cc Beginner trophy. Krause, in second, was having problems holding off John MacGugan. Kerr scored his second straight win, ahead of MacGugan, Krause and DeCarlo. Results 50 BEQ: I. Bobby Hardin (KTM); 2. Killian Weder (Pol): 3. Malon Rodriguez. (KT.flt\); 4. Shane Lent (Pol); 5. Southern Californian received a record amount of rainfall in 2001, but that didn't seem to faze Ron Turner and his crew at Competition Park, who provided the Over The Hill Gang with 8 fantastic track on which to race. The day prior to the race, the starting area was under two feet of water, but by race day it was hardly apparent that it had rained. CR pilot Clint Miller used the tacky track to top the large Over 38 Novice class. As the 31 racers roared into the first tum, Kirk Schrader grabbed the holeshot on his 1982 RM. Schrader was quickly swallowed up by the enormous pack, though he was able to finish a very respectable eighth. Michael Utterback grabbed the lead by the end of lap one, with Miller, Paul Crouch. Robert Esparza and J8mes Hollman in tow. Miller made his way by Utterback and the race was on. The two riders traded places several times before moto's end.
