Some 300 riders came out and were greeted by perfect weather for racing. Rob Locke took the holeshot in the first moto of the 125cc Intermediate class, with Brian Germany and Brian Nicholson on his heels, but the first turn claimed Bradley Mikolas and Case Campbell. Mikolas remounted in fifth, Campbell in last place. Locke used this to his advantage to break away from the rest of the field early on. At the end of the first lap, the order was Locke, Germany and Nicholson, with Mikolas trailing the pack.
