IMS Pro Series/Carolina Ultra Series und 1: Sandhills MX Part Damon BradshaW" Returns Home By DAVID ELLER CHESTERAELD,SC, MAR. 4 R ound one of the IMS Pro Series/Carolina Ultra Series opened up in Chesterfield, South Carolina, with clear blue skies and temperatures in the 70s. A Sandhills record of 533 riders were set to do battle for bragging rights as well as thousands in factory contingency dollars. Parking had to be shuffled into neighbors' yards adjoining the pit area. Track conditions were dry and fast, and as the day progressed the track became very rough, and some classes tests of survival of the fittest. Sixteen 125cc Pro riders were ready to take on those track conditions. In moto one, Yamaha of Kingsport's Kevin Walker absconded with the holeshot, followed by Damon Bradshaw, Josh Summey, Adam Overcash and Jon Boruff. Walker and Bradshaw, who have raced each other hundreds of times on this track, began to distance themselves from the pack. This was one of Bradshaw's old stomping grounds from this Amateur days, and he and Walker grew up banging bars. On lap three, Bradshaw made his move to get inside through the whoops and get the pass. Behind them, Boruff was beginning to pressure Overcash, and he soon made the pass. The front two had more than 30 seconds on third-placed Summey, who in turn had 10 seconds on Boruff and Overcash. This was how moto one ended. Moto two was almost a carbon copy, as the top five repeated their placings and secured those spots overall. Bradshaw got the 250cc Pro holeshot, with Walker, Overcash, Summey and Jered Black in tow. Summey was glued to Overcash's fender, and Black stayed close enough to keep them honest. Walker fell on lap four, giving second to Summey, who had just passed Overcash. Black was now fourth, and Walker remounted in fifth. The order remained the same to the checkers. Moto two featured another Bradshaw holeshot, followed by Walker, Summey, Brian Lane and Sean Skutnik. Overcash was deep in traffic after he and Boruff got together in turn one. Troy Crisp moved past Skutnik and Lane. Black was also on the move, and he passed Lane and set after' Crisp. The front trio were gone, and the next three were racing closeIy. Black moved past Crisp and set the running order at Bradshaw, Walker, Summey, Black and Crisp. Lane soon moved back into the top five as he made a pass on Crisp, which also gave newcomer Jason Bryant an opening to make a pass. Boruff was looking for a top finish, and he closed in on this trio. With one lap to go, Boruff had passed Crisp and Bryant and was now hounding Lane. At the end, it was Bradshaw, Walker, Summey, Black, and a hard-working Boruff in fifth. The Over 25 A contest was Bradshaw's show number three. He got the moto-one holeshot, with Walker, Skutnik, Billy Liles and Crisp fighting for positions behind him. At halfway, Bradshaw and Walker had 20 seconds on Crisp, Liles and Gaylon Dickson. The order remained unchanged to the end. Walker got the holeshot again in moto two, with Bradshaw in tow. Walker began to put some distance on Bradshaw, but behind them a dogfight ensued between Frank Koenig, Liles and Dickson. Crisp was trying to break into the top five after a strong first moto. Liles was pushing Koenig as Crisp moved past Dickson for fifth. With two laps remaining, Liles passed Koenig, who was now feeling pressure from a relentless Crisp. As the white flag came out, Crisp passed Koenig and tried to run down Liles. Out front, Bradshaw had passed Walker for the lead. Third went to Liles, with Crisp and Koenig rounding out the top five. • Superior performance for track or street • HH-rated racing sintered metal brake pads • Fade-free brake performance even under extreme use and high temperatures • Precision brake feel and fingertip control • Colorful SBS packaging makes choosing the right brake pads fast and easy cue I .. n e . . os • APRIL 4, 2001 45
