(Left) Jesse Casillas had an up-anddown week. He followed up a couple of thirdplace perfonnances with a second place, behind Stewart, in the 125cc Schoolboy (12-15) class and a win in the 250cc Open event. (Right) Hondamounted Charlie Monison fought hard to win the Mini Open (7-16) class his first-ever National win. topping Currier, Blake Baggett and Eli Tomac. eN Masler Valley USA Masier Valley, Teus cated my shoulder at my first race and couldn't ride until January. Then I sprained my wrist at the Gold Cup, so I just kind of started riding again just before this race." In the end, Stewart's national 125cc debut was a success_ Not even falling off could hold him back from a complete sweep of every moto_ If history should repeat itself, professional motocross is in for a new star in the not-so-distant future. This year's Expert classes were a little light on talent, after many of the nation's top Expert riders were injured during the Lake Whitney event a week prior, including Shane Bess, Ryan Morais, Andrew Short and Justin Smith. Popping into the limelight was Northern California's Turbo Reif, who took over business in the 250cc Expert class aboard his mighty Honda CR250, topping the likes of Josh Woods and Jeff Northrop. Team Green's Northrop rebounded and proved to be the best 125cc Expert pilot, winning the overall class championship ahead of the Yamaha four-stroke of Kevin Johnson and teammate Woods. The Mini divisions simulated miniature Pro classes this year, as most of the races required qualifiers and run-offs to thin out the fields. Suzuki's Davi Millsaps was the week's most successful Mini racer, winning three class championships the eocc Stock and Modified (12 - 13) and 100cc Open classes - after swapping moto wins with Thousand Oaks Yamaha racer Mike Alessi throughout the course of the week-long event. The two Mini stars battled it out in almost every race, bringing large groups of spectators to the fence for what is quickly evolving into one of Amateur motocross' most epic minicycle rivalries_ While Alessi and Millsaps were waging their own private battles, Pennsylvania's Broc Hepler quietly took possession of both eocc Stock and Modified (14-16) classes for two of his own championships. But this Senior Mini ace found the going much more difficult in the combined 100cc classes, where he found himself fifth behind Jonathan Kerr, Jimmy Nelson, Mike Alessi and class winner Millsaps. The Junior Cycle ranks saw two separate winners_ Florida's Ricky Renner took care of the- 65cc Modified (9-11) class, while Mini -star Zach Osborne won the 65cc Stock (9-11) class_ Expect to see many future battles this season between Renner and Osborne, as the racers are almost an equal match-up - similar to the Alessi/Millsaps rivalry, except on smaller equipment. Pee Wee stars Ian Trettel and his younger brother Gavin played a dominating role this week; the brothers won four of the five classes offered aboard their Cobra minis. The only class neither of them won was dominated by flying KTM pilot Grant Ransdell, on his Champion Cycle-backed 50cc machine, who stole the show in the Stock-class final. Ransdell shook off heavy opposition from Washington's Landon Currier to score the championship for the ocange team, Results: Man:h 15-18, ZOOl 50 (4-6) STK: J. Govin Trettel (Cob); 2.
